WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER The Invasives Technician Internship (ITI) will work in the Agassiz Beach Ridges and Sheyenne Delta Landscapes in the Northern Tallgrass Prairie Ecoregion (western Minnesota and eastern North Dakota, respectively) as part of a crew managing prairie tracts and restorations at various nature preserves in these landscapes. Technician duties will include vegetation management (herbicide applications, brush removal, tree removal, mowing, biological control, etc.), equipment maintenance and organization, hand collecting native prairie seed, fencing and boundary posting. The ITI will primarily focus on treating invasive plant species through the vegetation management techniques listed above. As part of the Technician's ongoing professional development, the ITI will help with a wide range of stewardship activities including but not limited to equipment maintenance and organization, hand collecting native prairie seed, fencing and boundary posting to grow their professional development. The ITI will be expected to work independently and in a team environment. The ITI will regularly work with a 2-4 person crew. This position occasionally requires irregular hours, and travel on short notice. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. This position is based in Glyndon, MN and the pay is $14.00 to $15.50 depending on experience and housing is provided. Transportation from The Nature Conservancy office to the various preserves will be provided by The Nature Conservancy. There are three positions available. This is a full-time (40 hr/week) seasonal position with a start date of mid-May and end date of mid-August 2024. RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE Supervises no staff, but may help plan and direct preserve work groups, including staff or volunteers. Maintain preserve areas frequented by the visiting public Remove exotic species and/or species monitoring (including use of herbicides) Maintain tools and equipment Brush and tree removal Seed harvest Photo and vegetation monitoring Other preserve management activities May require considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain. W AT YOU'LL BRING High school diploma or GED and 6 months of related experience Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment). Must be ale to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR, herbicide or pesticide application). Ability to obtain a driver's license, and maintain a good driving record and obtain a DOT Health card. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Multi-lingual skills and multicultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated. Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. Lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment).
