Position Summary:The International Student Services (ISS) office is a new department that will be responsible for the coordination and development of international programs and services at the University of Alaska Anchorage including, but not limited to, international student admissions and compliance, international student support including programming, community building, and belonging, study abroad, international alumni relations and development, and faculty engagement in partnership with the Provost’s Office.
This position will report to the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.
ISS provides services that meet the diverse needs of the UAA global community and offers programs which foster global perspectives and diplomacy, intercultural awareness and international goodwill. This unit serves as UAA's central source of information and support services for incoming students, outgoing students on study abroad programs, faculty engagement. ISS works with all areas of the university to identify and meet the unique needs of its constituencies and to provide opportunities for all members of the campus community to develop effective skills and perspectives for global citizenship and leadership.
The position, under direction of the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, is responsible for conducting a needs assessment to determine the direction of the International Student Services office. The coordinator will also work closely with numerous stakeholders to increase student recruitment, engagement, and retention among international students at UAA. They coordinate efforts surrounding service models and advising. They may serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for F-1 and J-1 programs and ensure compliance with SEVIS regulations.
Provides support to students throughout their time at UAA.
The incumbent assists in operational duties as they affect the functioning and needs of the International Student Services Office.

Experience in an international education setting (language school, high school, private school, community college, or university).
Demonstrated ability to cultivate collaborative, professional, and friendly relationships with internal and external constituencies.
Strong public speaking, verbal, and written communication skills; with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively at all organizational levels, and with diverse ethnic and cultural constituents.
Ability to prioritize, manage and complete multiple tasks effectively with a high level of efficiency and efficacy.
Demonstrated excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, professional demeanor, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to create a supportive, “home away from home” environment for all international students regardless of major or background.

Successful experience working with diverse student populations including first generation and/or international students.

Experience working with diverse populations of students, parents, staff and university community members to create inclusive environments as well as demonstrated ability to promote effective communication among diverse populations.
Experience in assessment of services activities and proven knowledge of the use of information to improve functions, services, and programs.
Ability to manage sensitive and confidential student records/information.
Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders towards common goals and outcomes.
Applicants must have experience in coordinating or working within international services preferably in a college or university setting.
Minimum one year of progressively responsible relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Work experience must include demonstrated good judgement, discretion and awareness of and sensitivity to the interests and concerns of international, first generation, and other marginalized populations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and one or more years of relevant experience required.
Master’s degree or higher level in Student Affairs, Education, Counseling, International Studies, Human Services, Public Administration or related field from a postsecondary institution whose institutional accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is preferred.

This position is located on the UA campus in Anchorage.
