Summary The U.S. Department of Transportation, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s (PHMSA) mission is to protect people and the environment from the risks inherent in transportation of hazardous materials – by pipeline and other modes of transportation. Responsibilities As a Supervisory General Engineer/Physical Scientist, you will: Serve as Operations Supervisor, supervise staff to help accomplish the major duties and responsibilities of the Division. Plan, assign work, evaluate performance of subordinates; interview candidates and makes recommendations for appointment, promotion, or reassignments; effect minor disciplinary measures; and identify developmental and training needs of employees. Conduct investigations of pipeline facilities involved in major accidents or failures. Provide direction and coordination to the organization or state teams assigned to pipeline accidents. Apply and interpret Federal regulations and monitoring requirements to the design, construction, maintenance and operation of natural gas and hazardous liquid pipeline systems or operators. Develop and recommend to the Director initiative and strategies for implementation at the local and national level to address identified pipeline safety, transportation, and environmental problems. Develop alternatives and present findings in written reports or in meetings.
