Responsibilities Support programs in flow cytometry by developing robust, reproducible bioinformatics workflows. Responsible for designing and implementing machine learning solutions to solve complex problems associated with multiparameter flow cytometer data analysis. Work closely with cross-functional teams on quantitative flow cytometry and with the NIST flow cytometry standards consortium to develop algorithms that can extract valuable insights from large datasets. Contribute to the development and improvement of flow cytometry techniques by utilizing computational statistics and machine learning. Store, retrieve, organize, and analyze flow cytometry data using extensive computational resources and tools. Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement. Analyze data and build and deploy machine learning models. Optimize models for performance, scalability, and reliability. Requires the consideration of precedents and use of judgment to assess strengths and weaknesses of flow cytometry and machine learning methods. Collaborate with flow cytometry team members and external collaborators to share expertise, communicating complex ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Basic Requirements for 0401 Biologist: Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Basic Requirements for 1550 Computer Scientist:: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. AND In addition to the basic requirement for both 0401 and 1550: Applicants must also have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 (ZP-II at NIST) level. Specialized Experience is defined as experience in developing and implementing machine learning solutions, solid programming skills in Python, R, or Java, and a basic understanding of flow cytometry and its data format. OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as defined in the additional requirements Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
