Kelly Engineering is currently seeking an experienced Instrument Designer in the Prentiss, Alberta area!
The Instrument Designer works within the Design Team to develop comprehensive high-quality instrumentation construction work packages (CWPs) for implementation by at North American facilities.
The Instrument Designer applies strong leadership skills and a high level of knowledge in their area of responsibility to achieve the most effective design that complies with all company, industry, local, and national codes and regulations. Must work effectively with design engineers, project engineers and supporting personnel to develop job plans, estimates and other information to ensure successful project development and implementation.
Key Job Responsibilities
Under the supervision and direction of the Instrumentation Design Lead, works with Design Engineers and Project Engineers to develop and implement instrumentation projects, working within company-specific Project Methodology.
Interacts with all disciplines to minimize disconnects and errors in the design.
Responsible for all design tasks on the project from initial conception through contract issue, construction and startup including calculations, layout, routing and equipment/material selection and justification, coordination and support for estimating and scheduling as applicable.
Checks the accuracy, completeness and quality of any aspect of design on the project.
Participates in the layout of the plant and equipment taking into account process considerations, constructability, operability and maintainability of the facilities.
Prepares material specifications for inquiry and order, transmittals, and bid evaluation. Ensures use of the (approved manufacturer / supplier) AM/SL and/or support, justify, and facilitate changes to AM / SL lists.
Ensures that designs comply with applicable industry codes and standards and company defined Most Effective Technology (MET), Safety and Loss Prevention principles, global practices and specifications.
Provides day-to-day plant support as required.
Actively participates in plant EH&S program.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Required
Minimum of 2-year Diploma in Instrumentation/Electrical Engineering Technology OR B.Sc. Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
Minimum 2 years instrumentation design experience

Registered member of ASET (C.E.T or P.Eng Tech) or APEGA (P.Eng, P.L.Eng or E.I.T)Proficient in Intergraph Smart plant Instrumentation.
Proficient in use of vendor issued software for instrumentation sizing and/or specification.
Experience implementing/modifying/reviewing SIL design based on IEC 61508/61511 standards using EXIDA ExSILentia software.
