Battery-NY is a new lithium battery technology development and prototyping center in New York's Southern Tier. Funded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration and NYS Empire State Development, Battery-NY is led by Binghamton University's Distinguished Professor M. Stanley Whittingham, 2019 Nobel Laureate inventor of the Li-ion battery. Battery-NY will build on existing strengths within New York State while advancing the development and enabling the scale-up and advanced manufacturing of batteries for various sectors including transportation, military, and energy, and will establish a robust manufacturing infrastructure that will advance the region by supporting multiple industries and their supply chains.

A first-in-class facility in the United States, Battery-NY will offer companies the latest technologies for the design and manufacture of batteries, as well as in-place pilot production, scale-up, and manufacturing capabilities that can be accessed without capital investment.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Industry Liaison Manager to join our state-of-the-art battery development and prototyping facility. Reporting to the Executive Director (Paul Malliband), the successful candidate will play a critical role in establishing and nurturing relationships with industry partners, fostering collaborations, and ensuring the smooth transfer of innovative technologies from our facility to the marketplace. This position is integral to the success of our facility's mission to drive advancements in battery technology in the USA and support the commercialization of cutting-edge solutions. This position will also interact closely with NY-BEST, the battery industry consortium. This position is based in Johnson City, New York, four miles from Binghamton University. Key Responsibilities:

Partnership Development:

Identify and engage potential industry partners and stakeholders.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with companies, research institutions, and government agencies.

Facilitate collaborative projects and joint ventures to drive innovation and commercialization.

Technology Transfer:

Oversee the transfer of proprietary technologies and intellectual property to/from industry partners.

Coordinate licensing agreements, contracts, and other legal documentation related to technology transfer.

Provide guidance on regulatory compliance and ensure adherence to industry standards.

Market Analysis:

Conduct market research to identify emerging trends and opportunities in the battery industry.

Analyze competitive landscape and provide insights to support strategic decision-making.

Assist in the development of business plans and commercialization strategies.

Communication and Outreach:

Represent the facility at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events.

Prepare and deliver presentations to industry partners, investors, and other stakeholders.

Develop marketing materials and communication strategies to promote the facility's capabilities and achievements.

Proposal Development:

Conduct meetings and workshops with potential customers/stakeholders to gather detailed information about their needs and expectations.

Convert the identified needs into detailed and actionable technical requirements.

Write comprehensive technical proposals that clearly articulate the project plan, technical approach, and costings.

Project Management:

Coordinate interdisciplinary teams to ensure successful project execution.

Monitor project progress, track milestones, and manage budgets.

Provide regular updates and reports to the Executive Director and other key stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field with 3+ years' experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven experience in business development, technology transfer, or industry relations within the battery or advanced materials sector.

Strong understanding of battery technology, market dynamics, and regulatory landscape.

Ability to prepare detailed reports, proposals, and technical documents.

Strong ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and drive successful outcomes.

Ability to travel as required.

Preferred:

Strong network within the battery industry and related fields, with the ability to leverage these connections for the benefit of the facility.

Strong understanding of battery manufacturing processes (electrode, cell assembly, FAT).

A good understanding of battery chemistry, electrochemical processes, and materials science.

Additional Information:

Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 annually
