Job Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for the role of Inclusive Pedagogy Lead! Under the direction of the Founding Faculty Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), the Inclusive Pedagogy Lead is responsible for supporting the development of the Center's activities and crafting resources related to inclusive teaching that recognize diversity as an asset. The Inclusive Pedagogy portfolio includes a broad array of activities and products, all designed in accordance with current methodology, theoretically-grounded evidence, and institutional needs and values. The Inclusive Pedagogy Lead works with the CTL team, academic programs, and support services to build and sustain a community of practice that emphasizes reflective, evidence-based practices and collaboration that support innovation in inclusive practices.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
Who We Are
The CTL supports innovation and excellence in teaching at the University of Colorado Boulder through its workshops, consultations, short-courses, and related activities.
Our work through the CTL aims to cultivate attitudes toward teaching that are open, curious, and innovative. Impactful teaching, we believe, is not innately produced but is learned, informed by continuous dialogue and collective knowledge. As a Center, we invite educators to an open, common space where all are welcome to explore teaching practices, pose questions, have brave conversations, take creative risks, and embrace intellectual humility.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Use emerging theoretical frameworks to oversee established inclusive teaching programs in the CTL (e.g., Just & Equitable Teaching Microcredential, Teaching International Students Microcredential, etc.) that are open to campus instructors, instructional support staff, postdocs, and graduate students. This includes designing curricula for these programs, as well as implementing workshops, tutorials, consultations, etc., related to inclusive teaching.
Use individual and group consultations to assist faculty and instructional support staff to:
Develop their capacity to construct classroom environments that function as an inclusive learning community for all students.
Build lessons, courses, or programs that are responsive to the diverse needs of today's college students.
Recognize and revise disparate expectations, inequitable course design elements, or stereotypical notions of students.
Identify and change language and behaviors that may include some students and unintentionally exclude others.
Identify and include scholarship and perspectives of underrepresented groups in their coursework.
Understand implicit bias and what impact it may have on teaching.
Address specific instructional challenges related to intercultural communication, classroom management, issues of equity and privilege in the classroom, and related concerns.
Develop, organize, and refine content resources related to inclusive teaching.
Participate as an active team member to implement CTL activities and programs.
Remain current with trends in inclusive teaching, as well as teaching and learning in general.
Collaborate with colleagues within CTL and across the university (e.g., senior vice chancellor for diversity, equity and inclusion; schools/colleges/academic units; and the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance (OIEC)) to facilitate the Inclusive Community of Practice (ICoP) that promotes inclusive teaching & equity.
Provide expertise in instructional design, inclusive practice, and student engagement and success to the CTL team.
Advise the Center director on trends in higher education inclusive pedagogy.
