POSITION SUMMARY:Please apply online using a laptop or desktop computer.This position provides support to a team that generates search strategy advice for patients needing stem cell transplantation. Serves as a resource on source selection to transplant center clinicians and coordinators. Has direct responsibility for maintaining the integrity of immunogenetic data for over 11 million donors, patients, and cord blood units on the NMDP Registry. Performs quality assurance review of DNA-based and serologic HLA typing data on donor and patient forms. Works on inter-departmental teams as assigned. This is a remote position (US). #LI-RemoteCheck out our video Saving Lives: It's the Best Job EverACCOUNTABILITIES:Develops skills to critically evaluate immunogenetic characteristics of patients and provide unrelated stem cell (donor and cord blood) selection plans for HLA Search Strategy Advice reports. Summarizes approach and best potential matches in the form of written reports for transplant center clinicians and coordinators. Provides support for search management projects and HLA education/training for NMDP and Network staff. Performs urgent patient search analysis as needed to support the NMDP Medical Director.Monitors and evaluates the integrity of HLA typing information entered into the Registry. Monitors and evaluates the work of laboratories/repositories and consultants involved in assigned projects to ensure compliance in accordance with contract specifications.Manages and analyzes large quantities of complex data using custom designed database tools, spreadsheets, and reports. Responds to and problem solves typing discrepancies, DNA-based ambiguities, and other laboratory related issues. Performs quality assurance review and editing of DNA-based and serologic HLA typing data on donor and patient forms. Serves as a laboratory liaison to NMDP Donor, Transplant Center, and Cord Blood Bank Coordinators.Writes technical reports, government and board of director deliverables and other business documents. Prepares documents to define scope of work to establish contracts with laboratories. Contributes to research proposals and scientific writing of abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations. Supports network education.Assists the IT staff with the design, testing and validation of computer enhancements and modifications as necessary to support the project needs.Participates in the quality control monitoring of HLA search strategy reviews, internal and external computerized tools and NMDP matching algorithm.Other duties as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of:Demonstrated knowledge of molecular biology, immunology, or genetics.Ability to:Demonstrate professional oral and written communication (documented experience).Demonstrate excellent problem solving, independent technical and troubleshooting experience.Demonstrate decision-making skills and project management experience.Exhibit strong organizational skills.Demonstrate basic word processing and spreadsheet skills.Education and/or Experience:Bachelor's degree in a biological science discipline or related field.Bachelor's degree and six years or Master's/PhD degree and four years of relevant work experience, such as: technologist, clinical trials project lead, clinical research nurse, clinical quality assurance specialist, transplant center coordinator, or research scientist in a related science setting.
