Position Summary
The HVAC Controls Technician will perform complex tasks includinginstalling, repairing, adjusting, and modifying electrical controls andelectronic and pneumatic instrumentation for heating, ventilation, airconditioning, refrigeration systems, boiler systems, and energymanagement systems in significant physical plant and individual buildings.

This position will continually monitor the building automation systems,work closely with consultants when they are brought in to fix softwareglitches, install upgrades, perform additional programming and makechanges within the program as a response to customer demands.As changes are made to the building automation systems, this position mustmonitor the software and make additions and/or changes as required. As moreexperience is obtained, there will be times when the employee will be ableto make minor programming changes to the software. When changes are made,the system must be tested and checked to ensure that other aspects of theprogram have not been affected.Conducts complex building automation system analysis and design studies andprepares concept and design specifications and management reports.Studies, evaluates, and recommends building automation architectures,protocols, standards, hardware, software, and devices.Installs, upgrades, and programs building automation software.Attends ongoing training for the various software programs used for theUniversity.Provides on-call support for the HVAC shop as required.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications related tomechanical systems. Must effectively communicate with management,supervisors, co-workers, other staff, and faculty within the DUcommunity. Must have good written and verbal communication skills and theability to work in a team-based environment as well as on an independentbasis.
Basic math skills are required.Ability to complete detailed procedures. The worker establishes dailypriorities. The employee responds to situations requiring immediate attention.Must be able to prioritize issues in building automation systems and discernwhen additional resources need to be consulted.Must be very competent in working knowledge of building automationsystems, including working with a computer and monitoring these systems viacomputer. Must be able to troubleshoot these systems when problems arise andcan change set points and design parameters within the computer programs.Knowledge of IT Network infrastructure.Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)software, including WebTMA.Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or G.E.D
3 Years of experience in building automation systems.Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License and be insurable underUniversity guidelines.Knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems, electronic instrumentation,and an understanding of direct digital control systems.Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree with a technology emphasis in HVAC
Familiarity with specific software such as Johnson Controls,(Metasys), Trane (Tracer Summit), and Long (Niagara) preferredNiagara (N4) certificationWorking Environment
The employee works under typical office and field conditions.
