St. Catherine’s Center for Children is a leading non-profit organization in New York’s Greater Capital District. Our comprehensive range of human services reach more than 1,000 children, 600 families, and hundreds of adults across Upstate New York each year. Our multifaceted programs are designed to offer hope, foster growth, and improve the lives of the children, families, and adults we serve. We offer residential and therapeutic foster care programs for children and youth, Kinship support, homeless and community-based services for adults and families, a special education elementary school for ages 5-13, and so much more.

Job Summary:
The Human Resources (HR) Generalist is highly proficient in benefits administration and compliance laws as they relate to Human Resources functions within the Agency; and overall policies and procedures for the Agency, and the HR Generalist uses this expertise to proactively assist employees, candidates, interns, and managers in their roles.
This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.
Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintain compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
Maintain knowledge of and promote best practice standards and new technologies in human resources and talent management.
Assist employees with benefits questions, processing of PFL, FMLA, LOA, and Workers Compensation, in a timely and friendly manner.
Process Unemployment and Workers Compensation claims as submitted, in a timely manner.
Plan, schedule and facilitate the Agency’s new employee orientation, including ensuring that policy acknowledgments are completed.
Work in tandem with the Training department to ensure the orientation program is presented in a smooth and cohesive manner.
Responsible for the preparation of reports in all compliance areas including, but not limited to: Bureau of Labor Statistics, ACA and EEO.
Ensure new employees have reviewed benefits options and made their selections in a timely manner; Facilitate benefits open enrollment for all employees.
Assist the Finance department with invoice reconciliation, in conjunction with insurance broker.
Responsible for updating and maintaining ADP Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
Update and maintain Employee Handbook.
Actively participate in the agency’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Committee.
Ability to exercise independent ethical judgment and discretion.
Assist with wellness initiatives, employee recognition, and compensation studies.
Assist in handling complex or sensitive HR matters with understanding and confidentiality.
Additional Human Resources-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of HR.
Qualifications and Specifications:
A minimum of an Associate’s degree, with at least two years of Human Resources Generalist experience, required.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field, strongly preferred.
Must have a strong working understanding of Human Resource principles, practices, and procedures.
Must be a motivated self-starter, energized, engaging and highly organized with a strong attention to detail.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; Excellent writing aptitude.
Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures.
Proficient in various computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Business Suite, and HRIS databases (ADP / Workforce Now).
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times, stressful environment.
Previous experience working in a non-profit human services agency is a plus!
Excellent organization, planning and time management skills.
Ability to handle sensitive data with strict confidentiality.
Demonstrated placidity and patience; flexibility and adaptability.
Ability to work effectively in a shared decision-making model as a team member, and work collaboratively with other personnel and service providers or professionals.
Ability to pass required pre-employment background checks, to include fingerprinting, is required.
