About Human Resources Assistant (Military/Office Automation)

  Summary About the Position: Serves as a Human Resources Assistant in the Sacramento Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). The mission of the Sacramento MEPS is to process individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services Responsibilities Provide administrative support to the Reception-Administration Control Desk, Record Maintenance and Accountability, and Enlistment Processing. Greet and account for visitors/applicants in and out of the MEPS; muster applicants for processing and enlistment ceremonies, and administer pre-oath briefings. Obtain information, review and process entrance documents from personnel enlisting/re-enlisting into the military service. Question applicants to obtain and/or verify complete data required for final data processing of forms and records for entry into the military service. Gather information which would bear on moral or physical suitability for enlistment. Fingerprint applicants using automated systems, ensuring fingerprints are acceptable. Verify applicants' Emergency Data Records. You will note and correct any discrepancies when differences occur. You will use automated equipment to complete tasks such as creating correspondence, reports and maintaining records. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Utilizing computers for database management and/or word processing; 2) Maintaining paper and electronic files; 3) Reviewing and/or editing documents; AND 4) Providing information to callers and visitors. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to Detail HR Data Management Human Resources Technology Usage Oral Communication Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Student Loan Repayment MAY be authorized for highly qualified candidates. Service credit for annual leave accrual may be granted for certain non-Federal work experience and experience in the uniformed service. Advance in Hire MAY be authorized for highly qualified candidates. Incentives may be authorized.
