What a typical day as a Human Resource Generalist might look like:
Facilitate job requisition process, conduct interviews, and make hiring and salary recommendations in accordance with Company policy.
Partner with Plant Management to develop and revise job descriptions.
Conduct compensation comparisons for internal and market equity to make salary recommendations for new hires, reorganizations, equity adjustments, and promotions.
Manage candidates through pre-hire process and onboarding activities.
Effectively investigate employee relations issues. Analyze information from various sources and examine potential risks to draw conclusions/solutions and ensure actions are legally compliant and in accordance with company values.
Advise CertainTeed Management on HR issues including employee relations, performance management and employee development and training.
Advise employees in various human resources management matters including interpersonal issues, training, and career development. Maintain open-door policy.
Review disciplinary issues with management to identify best progressive discipline options, up to and including termination. As needed, recommend alternative paths to managers in the event disciplinary action and/or termination decision proposed is not appropriate and/or supported by proper documentation.
Manage employee commitment and engagement activities and programs; identifying opportunities to foster desired culture through employee programs and effective communication.
Position is involved in the analysis, design, and documentation of business processes.
Review and process non-exempt payroll on weekly basis
Conduct internal HR audits to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
Create change notices for salaried and hourly employees and document all personnel files accordingly.
Assess existing training programs and provide recommendations for changes.
Work with HR and Plant Leadership on implementing training programs to improve operations and promotional opportunities.
Ensure employees are properly trained on all safety measures (i.e. forklift certifications and other applicable OSHA trainings)
Organizes and ensures the required collection of training data, ensuring all training events, sessions and rosters are documented and captured for annual reporting as well as for compliance. Compiles data and completes Corporate HR file for yearly CSR reporting.
Support employee benefit issues, troubleshooting, etc.; work with benefits department and vendors to resolve escalated benefit issues.
Manage information dissemination/communication on benefit changes.
Coordinate annual enrollment meetings for plant employees.
Manages Employee Leaves of Absence including but not limited to, tracking and reporting of Family Medical Leave, Disability (Short Term/Long Term Disability) activity with TPA (third party administrator), coordinate paperwork and system updates for all leaves of absences, maintain medical file for Employee, follow up and communicate with the employee as needed with employee and leave service providers. Initiate change in status within HRIS system as needed.
Coordinate Annual Bonus and Merit cycle in conjunction with Plant Leadership
Advise employees of retirement program and prepare information/communications regarding benefit costs, benefit eligibility, etc.
Miscellaneous office and administrative duties as needed.
This job might be an outstanding fit if you:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field.
3-5 years of Human Resources Generalist experience.
Needs a comprehensive understanding of employment legislation and regulations.
Experience with leave management, compensation, and benefits.
Solid knowledge of HR computer software programs and systems (PeopleSoft) as well as Microsoft Office is required.
Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must demonstrate a proper sense of urgency, decisiveness, integrity, and ability to make appropriate decisions.
Must possess the ability to communicate plant operations to all levels within the plant.
Must have the ability to interact and work effectively with all levels of the organization, including executive management.
Bilingual/Spanish Speaking is a plus.
