SUMMARY: Entry-level training position in the Highway Department consisting of routine manual labor work.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES *include, but are not limited to, the following:
Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks, e.g., loads and unloads trucks by hand or with help from another employee with equipment; moves light and heavy weighted supplies and materials by hand or with hand-trucks, dollies, wheelbarrows, or other devices for moving of materials; digs holes and trenches with pick, shovel, or other simple tools to install tile and find telephone lines and backfills excavations; picks up brush and debris from the roadside; and mows lawn with riding mowers.Operates a dump truck with snow plow attachment to engage in snow and ice control, including attaching plows and sanders to dump trucks.Cuts back roadside foliage, trim branches, and removes trees and stumps.Directs traffic with a signal flag or paddles, following all safety procedures.Assists in spreading and raking cold and hot asphalt mix and other paving materials to proper thickness and grade on roadways, widening roadways or installing road drainage tile and other roadways, and ditch or bridge maintenance.Tools or equipment utilized (including but not limited to): riding and push mowers, chainsaws, shovels, rakes, spud bars, generators, drills, weed-eaters, post-hole diggers, brush chippers, stump grinders, etc.Prepares and submits work-related records, e.g., work performed, materials used, etc.Benefits to you:

Enjoys working outdoors in all weather elements.Valid Driver's License.Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or must obtain Class B CDL within 6 months of hire. We provide on-site training in order to obtain a CDL Class B Licensure.Formal education in mathematics that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to read, write, and speak common English vocabulary. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must be able to regularly lift 30 pounds with occasion to lift up to 100 pounds. Employees are regularly required to use their arms, hands, and fingers. Must be able to talk and hear over a 2-way hand-held radio. Employees must be able to reach arms, use hands and fingers, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
Work is primarily outdoors. May be exposed to unpleasant weather conditions, highway traffic, moving mechanical parts, dirt, loud noise, grease, dust, gas fumes, and other conditions. May be on call during weather emergencies.
