Responsibilities Presents instructions to other workers that are received from the supervisor and directs work by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group. Serves as work leader and is accountable for planning and scheduling work according to set procedures. Knowledge in the following: diagnosis, repair, overhaul and modification of heavy mobile equipment and vehicles, and similar construction and earth moving equipment, fire engine and pump trucks, snow removal equipment, cranes, etc. Knowledge of diesel, and gasoline engines, drive line assemblies, ignition system charging and starting systems, wiring and lighting systems, carburetor and injection systems, and emission control systems. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. Performing repairs, replacements, and adjustments of parts and assemblies on heavy mobile equipment; testing and troubleshooting a variety of transmissions; and interpreting schematics and blueprints. I work under supervision of a supervisor who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require them to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, climb, and work in tiring position. Frequently lifts items that weigh 10 pounds. Occasionally handles items that weigh up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposed to changing temperatures, noise, dust, heat, vehicle exhaust fumes, oily, greasy and other chemical hazards. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a(n) Logistics Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Since Alaska is considered a non-foreign overseas location, statutory return rights for current DoD employees are applicable in many circumstances.
