LL Pelling is looking for a skilled heavy equipment mechanic to maintain and repair our construction equipment and fleet vehicles. This full-time, year-round position comes with a competitive benefits package including a company-provided truck. As a mechanic, you should feel comfortable working independently and, when needed, with other mechanics to troubleshoot equipment failures. As part of a small team, it's vital that you're dependable, come to work on time, and have a strong work ethic. Overtime is normal during our construction season. If you like variety, then you'll enjoy knowing that no two days are the same! Mechanics perform work both inside a shop and outside, directly on construction sites.
Responsibilities
Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on equipment and fleet vehicles.
Troubleshoot malfunctions and determine repairs needed.
Complete maintenance and repair logs.
Maintain and secure work tools.
Clean and maintain a safe work area.
Know and observe lock-out/tag-out and all other safety procedures.
Observe environmental rules by properly disposing of waste oil/lube and filters and take care in fueling and cleaning equipment.
Maintain security by removing ignition keys from vehicles not in use and locking all gates when leaving company sites.
Additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Minimum 2 years experience repairing heavy construction equipment and fleet vehicles. Or, the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver's license with insurable driving record
Be at least 18 years of age.
Required Skills/Abilities
Must have regular dependable attendance to be physically present in the shop each day.
Must be able to drive to job sites and company locations.
Able to perform simple math calculations.
Able to work independently with little to no direction and in a team environment.
Effective interpersonal communication skills.
Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Competent in the English language to read, write, speak, and listen.
Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Physical Requirements
Able to work outside in all weather conditions and within an indoor shop.
Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to perform strenuous manual tasks for long periods of time.
Have clarity of speech and hearing which permits effective communication
Have sufficient vision which permits moderate review of a wide variety of materials including operating manuals, safety plans, and inspection forms both in electronic and hardcopy formats.
Have sufficient manual dexterity to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; use hand tools and power tools for repair and maintenance; and document work performed in electronic and hardcopy formats.
Lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 50 puonds regularly; occasionally up to 100 pounds.
Stand, sit, squat, kneel, bend, crouch, twist, reach, climb into and out of equipment, and use a ladder as needed.
Work Schedule
Days and hours of work vary including overnight and weekend work based on weather, project size, and location.
Must be available to work overtime: 50+ hours per week.
Must be available to work nights and weekends.
