Job duties may consist of any of the following duties: Load and unloadcrops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, handtrucks, forklifts, or transfer augers. Observe and listen to machineryoperation to detect equipment malfunctions. Manipulate controls to set,activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery. Operate or tend equipmentused in agricultural production, such as tractors, combines, andirrigation equipment. Adjust, repair, and service farm machinery andnotify supervisors when machinery malfunctions. Attach farm implementssuch as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using boltsand hand tools. Operate towed machines such as seed drills or manurespreaders to plant, fertilize, dust, and spray crops. Drive trucks tohaul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers. Drive and operate farmmachinery to plant, cultivate, harvest and store grain crops. Attachfarm implements, such as plow, disc and drill to tractor. Maintain,repair, and overhaul farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors,harvesters, and irrigation systems. Dismantle defective machines forrepair, using hand tools. Record details of repairs made and parts used.Reassemble machines and equipment following repair, testing operationand making adjustments, as necessary. Clean and lubricate parts. Testand replace electrical components and wiring, using test meters,soldering equipment, and hand tools. Repair or replace defective parts,using hand tools, milling and woodworking machines, lathes, weldingequipment, grinders, or saws. Drive trucks to haul tools and equipmentfor on-site repair of large machinery. Fabricate new metal parts, usingdrill presses, engine lathes, and other machine tools. Repair bent ortorn sheet metal. Load or unload trucks or help others with loading orunloading, using special loading-related equipment or other equipment asnecessary. Drive trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, includingtractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver products,livestock, or other materials. Secure cargo for transport, using ropes,blocks, chain, binders, or covers. Report any mechanical problemsencountered with vehicles. Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies andequipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, or brakes, to ensurethat vehicles are in proper working condition. Load and unload trucks,vans, or automobiles. Maintain records, such as vehicle logs, records ofcargo, or billing statements, in accordance with regulations. Drivevehicles with capacities under three tons to transport materials to andfrom specified destinations, such as railroad stations, plants,residences, offices, or within industrial yards. Use and maintain thetools or equipment found on commercial vehicles, such as weighing ormeasuring devices. Perform emergency repairs, such as changing tires orinstalling light bulbs, fuses, tire chains, or spark plugs.
