About Health Physicist Undergraduate Student

  What You Will Do

  The Radiation Protection division is seeking health physicist undergraduate students with basic nuclear engineering or health physicist principles to include radiological engineering, instrumentation, analysis, or implementation.

  What You Need

  Minimum Job Requirements:

  Strong analytical, research, presentation, and mathematical skills

  Strong respect and adherence to established safety, security and environmental protection practices and requirements

  Successful experience working in an integrated team environment

  Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

  Currently enrolled in and have successfully completed a minimum of 12 undergraduate credit hours per semester (or the equivalent of full-time enrollment)

  Have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale. Note: Students must provide the program coordinator with current, official transcripts annually to remain eligible. See the Annual Transcript & Salary Review Process section for additional information

  Desired Qualifications:

  Relevant Health Physics or Nuclear Engineering coursework

  Exposure to real world applications of radiological principles

  Knowledge of Health Physics principles and procedures, design appropriate standards and administrative practices

  Commitment to achieving results in a complex social and organizational setting

  Work Environment:

  Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

  Note to Applicants:

  Additional Details

  Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

  Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

  *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 (https://www.directives.doe.gov/directives-documents/400-series/0472.2-BOrder-chg1-pgchg) for additional information.

  426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

  New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

  Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
