The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.
Health Educator Consultant
The incumbent will serve in the Office of Minority Health and will support health disparity projects. Specifically, this role will work closely on Minority Health Liaison initiatives and the Florida Healthy Babies program for maternal and child health, by addressing health disparities through partnerships and collaboration with other agencies. Duties will include participating on internal councils, committees and workgroups, coordination of and participation in local health initiatives, developing health education communication materials, as well as preparing grant applications, manuscripts, reports and other written materials.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
Managing public health programs and initiatives
Leading external task force and partner coordination efforts
Participating on internal councils, committees and workgroups
Preparing posters, manuscripts, reports and grant applications
Assisting with analyzing, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating activities associated with public health programs and initiatives
Position activities may occur before, during or after normal working hours and/or on weekends or holidays
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of community-based health promotion planning.
Ability to manage projects
Ability to collect and analyze data.
Ability to prepare reports, publications and grant applications.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form
Ability to facilitate meetings and planning processes
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to learn other software / programs for reporting purposes.
Qualifications:
Minimum
1 year experience in the public health or healthcare field
At least 1 year of experience bringing together diverse stakeholders for a project or initiative
At least 1 year of experience preparing written reports and documents such as grant applications or manuscripts
Experience using IT applications, including MS Teams, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Preferred
At least 1 year of experience bringing together diverse stakeholders for a project or initiative
4 years of public health or healthcare experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in public health / health related field
