Visit www.cdc.gov Responsibilities As a Health Communication Specialist you will: Develop and implement communication and marketing programs, projects, and strategies for the general public and other audiences, including innovative demonstration projects. Implement programs, projects, and strategies, works with senior health communication specialists to ensure health communication activities are based on theory and use accepted principles, methods, and practices. Develop, test, and disseminate science- and audience-based products, tools, and messages to different audiences in a variety of formats. Collect data from programs for the development of health communication strategies and products. Develop and present printed, electronic, and audiovisual materials for technical and lay audiences, scientific journals, and Internet and other mass-media outlets. Requirements Conditions of Employment Due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) process enhancement to use Shared Certificates throughout the Agency, some of the requirements below may differ: US Citizenship is required. Qualifications All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Minimum Qualifications for GS-11: To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level, which must include the following experience: developing and implementing public health communication strategies and practices for audiences; and utilizing communication coordination tools (i.e., MS Team and MS SharePoint). OR Education: Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 (three) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related, in a field related to the duties of this position. OR Combination of education and experience: Have a combination of education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. Minimum Qualifications: for GS-12: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience: managing the development, coordination, maintenance and tracking of public health projects. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Promotion potential: Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your meeting qualifications and time-in-grade requirements, demonstrated ability to perform the higher-level duties, the continuing need for the higher-level duties, and administrative approval.
