Position Summary
The Health Care Assistant is a key member of the patient care team and vital to MSU Health Care clinical operations. Under the direction of licensed healthcare professionals, the role performs a variety of clinical support tasks in the outpatient clinic. The Health Care Assistant provides support for physicians and other clinicians in the delivery of high-quality health care.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a medical office setting or in a clinical setting performing routine health assessment tests; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require experience in the use of word processing and database software, a specified medical course such as Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Licensed EMT/EMT-P, or Phlebotomy. May require knowledge of electronic medical record and patient scheduling systems and Medical Billing/Medical Terminology experience. BLS certification required.
Desired Qualifications
One year of work-related experience in a medical office clinical setting with medical terminology. Prefer experience working in a Urology ambulatory office. Certified medical assistant, EMT, or certified nursing assistant experience preferred.

The job requires significant physical effort and involves carrying charts and medical equipment, assisting in ambulating and lifting patients.
Summary of Health Risks
Exposure to human blood, serum, and other body fluids; and materials covered under Universal Precautions; TB risk or work within three (3) feet of patients in a health care setting; wear a respirator.
