About the Position:

　　This position will serve as the District Ranger for the Darrington Ranger District. The District Ranger provides leadership and management, in coordination with the nearby Mt. Baker District Ranger, for programs in the north zone of the Forest.  Major programs include: Recreation, Special Uses, Wildlife, Fisheries, Botany, Vegetation, Fire/Fuels, Hydrology, and Engineering.

　　The District Ranger serves as a key member of the Forest Leadership Team and assists in the formulation of plans, policies, and objectives for the Forest. The District Ranger provides information and recommendations to the Forest Supervisor concerning District programs.

　　Stewardship in this part of the world includes natural and human resources. Relationships are woven into all the work we do on the Mount-Baker Snoqualmie NF. Specifically, the District Ranger consults directly with three Tribal nations in the area and is accountable to the 19 Point Elliot treaty tribes. Upholding this trust responsibility is an essential component of the position. More broadly, it is the responsibility of the District Ranger to maintain and enhance collaborative relations with (in no particular order) local, county, and State representatives, special interest groups, civic groups, private industry, permittees, and members of the public. The District Ranger is responsible for promoting ecosystem management and ensuring long-term productivity and ecologically sustainable goals are implemented, maintained, and achieved.  The District Ranger coordinates District resource management with public officials, industry representatives, and citizen groups while ensuring that such plans are consistent with the District's multiple use resource objectives.

　　About the Forest:

　　The Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest comprises 1.7 million acres of land extending 140 miles along the western slopes of the Cascade Mountains from the Canadian border to Mt. Rainer National Park.  The Forest covers portions of Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, King and Pierce Counties.   Together, these counties contain over 55 percent of the state's total population.  Nearly five million people live in or near the Puget Sound metropolitan area.  Another two million people live in southwest British Columbia and make frequent use of the Forest.  This coupled with the fact that four major mountain passes cross the Cascades through the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, makes this one of the most visited National Forests in the country.
