rAbout This Role:
The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a GrantSpecialist position to be responsible for all aspects of pre-award andpost-award research administration at the department level by providingassistance to faculty involved in extramural grant and contractactivities. Primary job responsibilities include proposal and budgetdevelopment, monthly financial reporting to principal investigators,fiscal management of grant accounts, proposal modifications, and projectcloseout. Proposal development includes preparation of electronicproposals and requires review of compliance for federal and state lawsand regulations, university policies and sponsor guidelines. Fiscalmanagement of grant accounts includes monthly review of grant budget,budget projections as needed, cost-sharing reports, effort reports andassistance with procurement process for grant expenditures.
Assists faculty with the development and review of proposals forresearch instruction/training and public service activities, ensuringcompliance with applicable regulations, and the requirements of thesponsor. Identifies inconsistencies, consults with appropriate campusauthorities and faculty members/department/research office andrecommends how conflicts may be reconciled. Proposal developmentincludes utilization of the various electronic commerce initiativesmandated by the Federal government. Address pre-award or post-awardproblems that arise in any aspect of college operations and make soundchoices to resolve problems immediately.
Plans, constructs and reviews budgets for faculty members for proposedor continued projects in a manner acceptable to the sponsor, theUniversity, and the State of Kansas, consistent with the planned projectobjectives set forth by the project director. Plans and outlinesprocedures and develops budget strategies (including cost sharing andbudget justification) for major funding programs, communicates with andcoordinates efforts of project directors and research offices at all ofthe involved departments/institutions, implements established plans andprocedures requiring creative management and budgeting techniques.
Monitors grant accounts to maintain compliance with purchasingguidelines and regulations. Provide faculty with monthly reports.Assists faculty with single and multi-year budget projections to helpcoordinate projects. Advises faculty and staff on various mattersconcerning sponsored research activity such as fiscal matters,budgeting, re-budgeting and facilities and administrative costs;policies and procedures on purchasing, payroll, and accounting. Preparesand submits expenditure and/or sponsor reports as needed or directed bySponsored Programs, sponsors, or administrators
