SUMMARY:
The Graduate Advisor & Enrollment Specialist, under direction, coordinates and manages graduate student recruitment and academic advising and retention activities necessary to carry out the mission and strategic plans of the College of Business and the Graduate School. Provides detailed information and University resources to enable students to meet their academic needs and resolve issues while at the Texas A&M University Commerce.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides direction and detailed academic advising to graduate students, faculty, and staff related to aspects of progressing through graduate degree programs.
Provides student advisement and assists with registration and retention efforts for all graduate programs.
Reviews and submits student requests for course substitutions with program coordinator approval.
Maintains current and extensive knowledge of university graduate student policies and procedures.
Promotes the well-being of the office by cross-training with co-workers, briefing co-workers on current activities, and updating important skills pertaining to graduate advising and recruiting.
Collaborates with university faculty, staff and students to update advising materials while keeping abreast of advising trends.
Assists with preparation of necessary reports on advising trends, student demographics, etc.
Uses university programming (e.g., Salesforce, EAB, DegreeWorks, Banner, WebFocus, and Laserfiche) and various modes of communication for the tracking, advising, and recruiting of graduate students.
Attend and represent the university and Graduate School at various recruiting and/or marketing events in the region served by Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Represents A&M-Commerce’s graduate programs to both internal and external constituents, and other targeted audiences.
Handles registration rallies at the Dallas and Commerce campuses.
Develops and maintains positive working relationships and communication within the Graduate School and university internal offices.
Keeps abreast of current information about graduate programs.
This job description shall include but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Two (2) years of related experience in advising recruitment, marketing and/or customer service. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to present information clearly and concisely. Ability to communicate information individually, in small groups, or in informal large group settings. Meet deadlines in a timely manner.
Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.

Physical Requirements: The ability to lift 25/50 pounds.
Other Requirements: Ability to travel throughout Texas, and potentially nationally, is required. Ability to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Graduate degree in a discipline offered at the University. Prior work experience in higher education. Familiarity with the TAMU-C campus, its historical landmarks, and points of interest and location of both academic and non-academic offices. Experience with database management.

Titles of positions supervised (Graduate Assistants, Student Workers).
