As the research and analysis division of The Economist Group (TEG), EIU helps leaders prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over two hundred countries.
The Global Research Analyst will play a key role in supporting the research and analysis of EIU’s Global Forecasting team. They will work closely on topics related to commodities, regulations and the global economy. The role will involve research, analysis and writing on global themes. There is also scope to work on special projects, depending on analyst's preferences and business needs.
We are looking for an intellectually curious and exceptionally organised self-starter who is passionate about international affairs, economics and will fit in with a talented group of analysts based across the world.
Accountabilities
How you will contribute:
Work with a network of international correspondents to produce commodities-specific reports evaluating supply, demand and other key parameters for 25 commodities. EIU's commodities service also highlights factors influencing prices, as well as the production, consumption and stock levels of 25 commodities
Work with a network of international correspondents to produce country-specific reports evaluating the business operating climate in 56 major economies worldwide. Topics include international trade, foreign direct investment, competition policy, labour regulations and tax policy, among others
Play an active role in team discussions on global and regional themes, as well as the development of EIU’s global views
Undertake other duties as needed related to EIU's Global Forecasting team, including special research projects, product development, and client/prospect engagement
Experience, skills and professional attributes
The ideal skills for this role are:
Demonstrated experience researching and writing on international affairs/policy/economics and, ideally, commodities and regulations
Comfort in using economic data and large datasets; experience in economic modelling and data visualisation a strong plus
Superior organisation and self-management abilities; this role requires juggling multiple tasks at once, and co-ordinating with colleagues in different time zones
A team player’s mentality
Relevant work experience
Excellent written and spoken English
Training in the social sciences. A master’s degree in International Relations, Economics, or related subject is an advantage
A knack for placing clients first and maintaining a commercial focus
Strong knowledge in MS Office, especially Excel and Powerpoint; experience with data terminals and econometric and data science software and platforms is desirable
Passion for international affairs and enthusiasm for working in a cosmopolitan, fast-paced environment
