L3Harris in Portchester are known as ASV UK and they are a market leader in the development, build and integration of systems for a wide range of unmanned marine vehicles with military and commercial applications. For military these include Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), and Fast Inshore Attack Craft (FIAC) for combat training. For commercial these include Oil and Gas Exploration and Construction, Oceanographic Data Collection, Hydrographic surveying and Environmental Surveys.
We are seeking a General Manager to develop a vision, strategy and associated tactics for the L3Harris ASV UK business that drives operational excellence and achieves growth targets. L3Harris ASV UK work across 5 units in our Portchester location and an additional Portsmouth based workshop. The headcount of the business is approx. 190 with a leadership team locally of 7.
The responsibilities of this role will include the following:
P&L responsibility for the ASV UK business and the execution of its objectives.
Communicates with parties inside and outside of the organisation on matters of strategic importance to influence senior leadership on new concepts, practices and approaches.
Recommends and implements strategies and develops operational plans that directly impact mid to long term business achievements.
Requires advanced management, business knowledge, leadership capabilities and broad experience across multiple related professional disciplines.
Provide leadership, mentoring and guidance to cross-functional teams in the execution of major programs and projects.
Establish, grow and maintain close customer relationships, participate in the marketing and sales process and actively promote the organisation’s capabilities and strengths; ensure that customer perspective is a driving force behind business decisions and activities.
Collaborate with senior leaders across wider L3Harris to improve overall execution on joint projects and programs.
Lead and manage the current business portfolio and engage with program and project teams to meet customer technical and schedule needs while also achieving financial performance targets.
Provide leadership to business development activities associated with ASV UK programs, including strategic business planning, new business forecasting and strategic business capture.
Translate strategic priorities into operational reality by aligning communication, accountabilities, resource capabilities, internal processes, and ongoing measurement systems.
Drive high standards for individual, team, and organisational accomplishment through teamwork and empowerment; tenaciously work to meet or exceed challenging goals and foster continuous improvement.
What you’ll bring
The role of General Manager requires the following experience and skills:
Proven experience operating in a Leadership level position within the Defence/Maritime (or similar) industry
Experience of operating within a production/manufacturing environment with proven experience of delivering systems on a large scale
Proven successful experience of program management with P&L responsibility
A background spanning Operations, Business Winning, BD and/or Strategy.
Advanced commercial accumen and leadership capability to guide a business unit and lead functional teams.
Degree qualified (preferred) with prior related experience.
