Job Description:

Salt Lake City's Youth and Family Division is hiring a part-time/ hourly General Education Instructor!

About the Position:

This instructor will prepare for and facilitate parenting, financial literacy, digital literacy, and health and wellness classes for adult learners and families. Curriculum will include but is not limited to; Love and Logic Parenting, Money Smart for Adults, Northstar Digital Literacy, and Health and Wellness. The successful candidate will also assist with Fairpark Family Learning Center community events, general support in the computer lab, and other programming as needed.

This position is located at the Fairpark Family Learning Center (1300 W 300 N, Salt Lake City, UT 84116).

About the Team:

This position is part of the Youth and Family Division within the Community and Neighborhoods Department. There is 1 Director, 1 Associate Director, 1 Senior Program Manager, 1 Community Programs Manger, 3 General Education Instructors, and 2 Computer Assistants.

Work Schedule:

This position will be part time and about 20 - 25 hours per week, Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The Fairpark Family Learning Center is open from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Position Salary Range:

$20.00/hr. - $25.00/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

Facilitate youth and family arts or general education classes during daytime, "after-school’hours and/or evenings, year-round.

Implement and develop class curriculum; working within class timeframe and allocated instructor hours and materials’ budget.

Select and order supplies and other materials for classes, events, and special projects.

Assist in the planning, development and organization of programming that focuses upon providing educational and social skills through arts or general education.

Help develop and implement youth and family programming that reaches underserved families in Salt Lake City.

Perform self- and class-evaluations.

Work independently at satellite class locations; maintain productive and professional relationship with site partners.

Develop successful relationships with participating youth and families.

Supervise volunteer support within class, when applicable.

May manage classroom facilities and related supplies inventory.

Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience with a range of teaching methods and techniques. Ability to use creative and innovative approaches to arts or general education programming.

Experience working with youth and adults in a positive way. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from different social and ethnic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and/or a current Utah State Teaching Certificate.Working Conditions:

Moderate physical activity. Required to push, pull or lift medium weight. Uncomfortable working positions such as stooping, crouching and bending. May have a few disagreeable elements such as exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

Exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

May be required to work on evenings and weekends.
