The University of Chicago\'s Department of Neurological Surgery seeksfull-time physician-scientist faculty members to join the functional andepilepsy neurosurgery program. Appointees will have demonstrated astrong commitment to functional neurosurgery, broadly defined, throughrigorous clinical and academic work, and will contribute to advancingthe functional research and clinical programs. In addition to theteaching and supervision of trainees, appointees will have inpatient,outpatient, and on-call responsibilities at the University of ChicagoMedical Center\'s Hyde Park campus and occasionally at our network andaffiliate sites. Appointees will start in the 2024 calendar year.Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringebenefits) are dependent upon qualifications.
Appointees will collaborate with other department members to further theoverall functional neurosurgery program. The functional neurosurgeryprogram at UChicago spans the relevant sub-disciplines of movementdisorders, epilepsy, psychiatric disease, pain, and stroke recovery withpotential for additional areas of focus such as traumatic brain injuryand addiction. The Functional Research Program\'s current portfolioincludes several National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other awardsthat involve basic research (Brain machine interface), translationprojects, and clinical trials. Appointees will join a vibrant anddistinguished community of faculty colleagues committed to deliveringthe highest quality care and training the next generation ofneurosurgeons.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have aMedical Doctorate (M.D.) or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible formedical licensure in the State of Illinois, and 3) be board eligiblethrough the American Board of Neurological Surgery or equivalent.
We especially welcome applicants with peer-reviewed research portfoliosor with significant potential to secure extramural funding. Otherpreferred qualifications include: Board certification in Neurosurgery,advanced training in Functional Neurosurgery, broadly, as demonstratedby fellowship training and/or other dedicated experience anddemonstrated interest or strong track record of academic accomplishmentand a commitment to scholarly work, including basic, translational, orclinical research related to brain function, the mechanisms offunctional brain disorders and/or neuromodulation.
