We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic students who want to learn about forest management in Pennsylvania and help us preserve the natural beauty that surrounds us.
DESCRIPTION OF WORKThe main responsibility of this role is to support foresters and forest technicians in gathering data on state forest land. This involves assisting foresters in collecting various types of data using data records, GPS units, GPS software, or relevant databases. Additionally, you will aid foresters in carrying out annual resource management activities for timber, wildlife, recreation, watersheds, and water quality, all in accordance with the State Forest Resource Management Plan. You will also assist foresters in collecting field data for landscape and compartment examinations, as well as contribute to the development, construction, and maintenance of recreational infrastructure for forest users. Furthermore, you will assist forest technicians in establishing state forest boundary lines, which may involve locating boundary corners, conducting GPS data collection, researching deeds, and marking and tagging boundary lines. Finally, you will provide support for rural and community forestry programs as directed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employmentThe employment period will occur between the dates of 5/1/24 - 8/30/24.Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. QUALIFICATIONSInternship Requirements:Current full-time enrollment in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree or advanced degree program in one of the following acceptable majors:Forestry or Forest ScienceWildfire and FisheriesAn approved major course which includes a qualifying 24 credit hours of study in the physical, biological and environmental sciences may be acceptable.Freshman year completedGood academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university
Additional Requirements:This position requires possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license.You must be able to perform essential job functions.
