GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The Technician I is responsible for the proficient operation of the tire and service bays. Performs basicmechanical work, effecting minor repairs related to preventive maintenance and safety inspection. Participates intrainings targeting comprehensive repair and fabrication. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City ofBrownwood I SERVE Core Values.

Repair tires knowledgeably and efficientlyMount and balance tiresMaintain tire bay area, equipmentand tire truck, keeping them neat and clean Perform preventive maintenance which includes service and safetyinspections; Maintain service bay and equipment in a neat and clean mannerKeep preventive maintenancecard file updated and accurateMonitor fuel levels (stick fuel tanks) at least once a weekRespond to tirerelated service calls, and other service calls as assignedAssist Technician II and III as neededProcesspaperwork, primarily work orders, in a timely and accurate mannerParticipates in training as assignedComplete continued education courses and become certified in areas consistent with expertisePerform otherduties as assigned.POSITIONS SUPERVISED:None.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Ability to transport self from site to site.Ability to drive various types of equipment and vehicles to and fromvarious worksites.Employee will work in extreme temperatures, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting,climbing, and lifting in order to maintain or repair the City's fleet.Employee will work with chemicals,mechanical, electrical and traffic hazards. Employee will work in confined spaces, trenches and in streets whereextreme hazards exist while performing duties.Employee is frequently required to perform heavy lifting andcarrying of materials weighing up to 50 pounds.Employee will be exposed to poor lighting, dirt, dust, noises,fumes, odors, water, and mud.Employee must be able to walk on slippery, loose, uneven, and sloped surfaces.The machinery operated can be dangerous unless operated in a safe manner.CONTACT WITH OTHERS:In daily contact with persons who operate equipment, no contact with the public except on rare occasions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must have enough education to read and write effectively for this position; must be able to comprehend and speakthe English language; a high school diploma or G.E.D. is a plus but not required.Prefer one year or moreexperience in mechanical equipment maintenance and tire repair of all types.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Must have the ability to: 1) read, write and interpret instructions for repairs, service schedules, reports, materialtickets and work orders; 2) to inspect a vehicle, diagnose the problem and make repairs in a timely manner; 3) tooperate various types of equipment; 4) to work independent of direct supervision, be a self-starter; 5) to keep aclean, safe work area and maintain the tools provided by the City of Brownwood.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES:Valid Texas Class C Driver's license.
