Basic Function
The purpose of this Bargaining Unit position is to hire qualified individuals with a desire to accept and progress through the Fleet Services Apprenticeship Program. Employees in this classification have up to 6 months to job shadow and decide if they will officially accept the Fleet Services Apprenticeship position. While in this position, the incumbent will be afforded all rights under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement between Grant PUD and IBEW, Local 77.
The Fleet Services Trainee will perform functions under the direct supervision and assistance from Journeyman level Technicians and Foremen in the Fleet Services work areas. The Fleet Services Trainee must demonstrate a strong aptitude for the skills necessary to perform the duties of a Journeyman Fleet Services Technician.
The Fleet Services Trainee will have a keen interest in acquiring the ability to repair and maintain all utility equipment while on utility property and in the field, under the direction of a Foreman or a Journeyman Technician. The trainee must demonstrate the ability to follow directions, work independently, be self-motivated, and exercise sound judgement.
The Fleet Services Trainee will diligently follow all safety regulations and Grant PUD policies.
The Fleet Services Trainee will demonstrate the ability and willingness to work at various utility locations and the ability to safely work during inclement weather.
The Fleet Services Trainee is required to conduct themselves in a professional, safe, and courteous manner at all times.
The trainee will maintain an positive attitude towards learning.
Essential Function
An employee in this position will work under the direct supervision of a Foreman or any other Journeyman Technician, as assigned, such duties of a Journeyman as the extent of their training, experience, and knowledge will permit.
Will effectively communicate with the Foreman and/or Journeyman Technician regarding decisions, issues, and activity updates that may affect other employees or the work that is being preformed.
Actively participate in all aspects of Grant PU D's safety program, including, but not limited to:
Following all safety policies and procedures.
Show an aptitude and awareness of what a safe work environment is for all employees.
Show an aptitude and awareness of what a safe work environment is for all employees. Alerting Supervisors and coworkers to unsafe or hazardous working conditions.
Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours.
Accepting feedback from Manager and coworkers regarding employee's safety performance.
Demonstrate positive support for and implementation of utility decisions.
Actively promote adherence to and enforce Grant PUD policies and procedures.
Responsible for personal development by participation in training and coaching opportunities, with the demonstration of good work performance and behaviors.
Education
High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.Experience
Valid State of Washington Driver's License.
Background in automotive/diesel/agricultural mechanics preferred, or combination of experience.

Physical Requirements
Majority of work performed in a repair shop setting.
Must be mentally and physically fit for duty. Duties require physical dexterity, strength, and balance to work safely in all aspects of fleet repair and maintenance activities including truck mounted electric utility specialty equipment.
Must possess good visual perception and color comprehension.
Must be able to work in field environments with varying weather conditions.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
