NATURE OF WORKAs a member of the Public Works Division, the Fleet Laborer performsentry-level unskilled and semi-skilled work within the fleet division. Theindividual works in partnership with other employees,departments/divisions, external entities, and the public in deliveringeffective and exceptional services.
Most positions work Monday through Friday and may also require weekend andevening hours on a regular or occasional basis. The Fleet Laborer is requiredto perform work in a manner consistent with and exemplary of the town'sPRIDE philosophies and the town's Equal Employment Opportunity policy.
SUPERVISION RECEIVEDThe Fleet Laborer works under the direct supervision of the Fleet Manager tocarry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects while workingin the office and shop, for both routine and complex circumstances.
SUPERVISION/LEADERSHIP EXERCISEDNo supervisory responsibilities or control are exercised.
Essential Job FunctionsESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSThe Fleet Laborer is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope,authority, responsibility, roles, and requirements as determined by thetown, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulations, andpractices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfullyperform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of manyjob functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.Thefollowing duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primaryfunctions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:
Perform driving tasks in town-owned vehicles to obtain parts, deliver andpick up vehicles for repair at the town fleet facility and external vendorrepair facilities.Perform shop cleaning and maintenance duties.Wash/vacuum vehicles and equipment.Under general supervision, will assist Fleet Mechanics with servicing,troubleshooting, and repairing small equipment and vehicles.Assist in rust repair of fleet vehicles, including washing, grinding,priming, and painting.Assist with inventory of parts storeroom.Ensure adherence to safe work practices as well as keeping maintenance of workareas safe, clean, and free of clutter.Unsupervised loading, securement, hauling, and unloading of variouspieces of equipment, using a car trailer or equipment trailer.OTHER DUTIESDepending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following:Cleans equipment and Public Works shops and yard areas as necessary.Perform operations and maintenance of and to town property such as streets androads, roadsides, rights of ways, water & wastewater facilities,storm drainage facilities including detention & retention ponds, openspaces, easements and other public areas relating to the Town of Windsor.This may include spraying herbicides, weed eating/trimming, mowing andtrash debris pickup in or around town property.Work in a team environment assisting the Town's Public Works Divisions.The PTYR Fleet Laborer position is part of the snow removal program whichincludes scheduled on-call responsibilities typically during the months ofOctober to April. Fleet Laborers (PTYR) are required to review andacknowledge the Snow Guidelines annually.The Fleet Laborer position participates in the Shared Fleet Vehicle Program,which requires an annual motor vehicle record check.Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, andacts accordingly to prevent accidents. Uses all required safety equipment.Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonablydirected by the town.May be involved in special projects that are directly or indirectly related toessential job functions.Education, Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ORMAL TRAINING
High school diploma or GEDMust be at least 18 years of ageEquivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence thatthe applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities toperform the essential functions of the job.Some municipal maintenance experience in the related fields such as publicworks maintenance and/or fleet maintenance is preferred.Previous automotive/mechanical repair experience preferred
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATESMust have a valid Colorado Driver's License or the ability to obtain oneupon hire, that meets the Town of Windsor's standardsForklift certified (preferred)CPR/1st Aid certification within three (3) months of employment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESKnowledge of basic mechanical equipment operation and repair.Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and goals of the Town of Windsorand the department/division.Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.Ability to use a forklift.Ability to read, interpret and apply documents such as safety rules,operating, technical and maintenance instructions, and policy andprocedure manuals.
