About the position
The Anadromous Fish Screen and Habitat Program in Salmon, Idaho isseeking 1 Fisheries Technician (benefited) to evaluate fish passage bymonitoring fish screens, operating PIT tag infrastructure, andcoordinating fish salvage activities in the Upper Salmon River basin.This position is part of an interdisciplinary team that operates a largefish screening and habitat restoration program throughout the UpperSalmon Basin.
The position is located in the town of Salmon in the Salmon River regionof central Idaho. This is a beautiful place to live and work and issurrounded by ample outdoor recreation opportunities including fishing,hunting, hiking, camping, floating, and mountain biking.
Qualifications
Applicants should have or be working towards a B.S. in FisheriesScience, Wildlife Science, or related field. Applicants should have someindependent work experience and willingness to work collaboratively withdiverse groups of landowners, environmental science professionals, andagency personnel. Should be able to operate personal computers/Bluetoothconnected devices and be willing to learn new software and computersystems. Applicants should have basic knowledge of anatomy, life historyand ecology of various salmonid species and the ability to learnsalmonid identification. Applicants must possess a valid driverslicense.
Responsibilities
1. Data collection. Collecting fish data using remote antenna detectionsystems or active collection methods (electrofishing or snorkeling),conducting spawning ground surveys and fish salvage operations,inventorying and inspecting diversions, managing and update databases byentering, checking, and/or editing biological or habitat data that hasbeen inputted on field forms, electronic data loggers, and/or desktopcomputers.
2. Equipment operation. Operating, maintaining, and downloading PIT tagreaders, inspecting equipment to ensure proper working order, operatingand maintaining fish screens Incumbent will work closely with ScreenTenders, Screen Tender Supervisor, craftsmen, irrigators, and watermasters to complete work.
