JOB REQUIREMENTS: Emergency Response Respond immediately to a widevariety of fire and other emergency situations. The dangers andcomplexity of these emergencies vary, so operations require organizationand teamwork. At emergency scenes, perform specific duties assigned by asupervising officer which may include the following: connect hose linesto hydrants, operate pump, position ladders, ventilate smoke-filledareas, operate equipment, respond to special operations situations, andsalvage the contents of buildings. Perform emergency medical care to theill and injured. Carry and operate basic and advanced lifesavingequipment like cardiac defibrillators and medications. After callscomplete thorough and accurate documentation of actions taken duringpatient care or emergency operations. Preparedness and Training Performcompany level and department-wide training in EMS, firefighting, specialoperations, and other duties as assigned. Prepare written reports onfire incidents and review fire science material and EMS protocols andconcepts to keep abreast of technological developments, administrativepractices, and policies. Risk Reduction Conduct periodic inspections ofcommercial and residential occupancies to determine code compliance.Using knowledge of fire hazards and local fire and building codes, checkexit routes, storage and use of flammable and combustible materials, andevaluate hazardous conditions that might result in a fire. Aftercompleting inspections, explain findings to building property managersor owners in a courteous and professional manner and enter inspectionresults in department electronic records. Equipment and FacilityMaintenance - Perform daily and periodic checks of department vehiclesand equipment with diligent attention to detail, realizing that thelives of the firefighter, fellow department members, and the publicdepend on the vehicles, tools, and equipment being ready for service atall times. Document discrepancies such as broken or missing equipment onassigned department checklists and electronic records per departmentpolicies. Complete daily and periodic cleaning and maintenance of firestation buildings, grounds and equipment at the direction of companyofficers. Collaboration - Support the mission, vision, and values of theOshkosh Fire Department. Attend meetings and participate on committeesand workshops as assigned. Represent the department in a professionalmanner.
