　　Position Type: Full Time, 100% Onsite

　　Schedule: 8-hour shift between 7:30am-6:00pm

　　*Schedule may change based on patient census and the needs of the business*

　　What You Will Do

　　The Inpatient Financial Counselor is responsible for visiting patients and ensuring patient understands their insurance benefits, including co-pays, deductibles, out of pocket and covered services, provides education and information, about available assistance programs for the uninsured or under insured at UAB. Excellent communication and customer skills is required for this position.

　　Serves as a bridge with the Medical Centers and billing departments.

　　Screen patients for possible financial assistance programs.

　　Explains financial options and provides financial counseling to patients.

　　Assists patients in developing a financial plan and assesses for financial disparities, completing applications for financial assistance (i.e., Medicaid/Medicaid Disability, County Health Plans,)

　　Help patients identify, apply and complete financial assistance application.

　　Provides patient with a personalized treatment cost estimate.

　　Referral to insurance brokers

　　Connect with the social worker, pharmacy, and medication assistance representative if patient needs help with the cost of care.

　　Interviews patients to obtain accurate demographic and financial information from self-pay and high-risk patients.

　　Assist patients with the completion of applications.

　　Explains financial options and provides financial counseling to patients.

　　Serves as an internal resource for reimbursement questions.

　　Facilitates processing of financial assistance/charity care applications

　　Communicates daily with coworkers, hospital and management regarding account progress and or issues.

　　Answer calls from a phone queue regarding patient account inquiries and financial assistance

　　Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

　　What You Will Need :

　　High School Diploma or Equivalent.

　　Familiarity with Medical Terminology.

　　1-3 years' experience working in financial counseling.

　　1+ year of eligibility experience

　　1+ years of experience in medical billing or hospital admittance

　　Knowledge of private and government insurance plan

　　What Would Be Nice To Have :

　　​Computer proficiency

　　Excellent communication and organizational skills

　　Working Knowledge of Processes for all major insurance carriers, intermediaries, Medicare and Medicaid
