The purpose of this position is to lead and supervise employees who maintain and operate the gas distribution system. The incumbent in this role directly supervises internal resources who sustain and preserve gas utility infrastructure integrity and customer safety, while delivering on financial and operating objectives. This person drives quality, safety and compliance expectations and ensures that those standards are met within a functional or regional area. Positions are slated for either service or delivery dependent on location.
Functional Expertise:
Responsible for overseeing the successful operation and maintenance of above ground and underground gas utility infrastructure, including work on mains, services, regulators, meters, and regulating stations.
Directs and manages emergency response effort within a defined sub-regional area.
Accountable for driving field decision-making and coordinating with centralized scheduling, internal and/or external service providers, support departments and external agencies to ensure that work is performed as planned, permitted and scheduled (Supervisor II).
Responsible for maintaining compliance with local, state and federal regulations, coordinates ongoing OQ training as needed, ensuring all promoted employees receive appropriate training and qualifications in appropriate areas.
Responsible for ensuring employees have proper tools and equipment to perform duties.
Responsible for driving safety, performance, quality, and workmanship.
Responsible for execution and delivery of projects on time and on budget.
Business Acumen:
Sets performance expectations and direction for direct internal crew reports within a functional or sub-regional arena of responsibility.
Responsible for partnering with centralized scheduling to determine and ensure resource, tool and maintenance techniques meet demand and optimize project investment and spend.
Responsible for preparing and monitoring monthly and annual capital and operating expense budgets and implements cost control within a functional and/or geographical area.
Engagement:
Responsible for enhancing productivity of direct reports through selection, training, motivation and performance management.
Responsible for maintaining customer satisfaction through timely and thorough communication with individual customers, municipalities and other governmental agencies at pre-con meetings and throughout the project (such as state DOTs, Counties, etc).
Instills corporate values and personal responsibility into workgroup.
Driving Results:
Responsible for establishing and monitoring work goals and objectives for safety, quality, cost management, productivity and customer service; measures employee performance accordingly.
Responsible for driving change and coaching and developing staff through effective feedback and performance evaluation.
Responsible for creating and implementing improved processes and techniques to enhance operating environment (Supervisor II).
Qualifications:
Education, Certifications/Licenses:
Required:
BA/BS degree or 3-6 yrs. experience in gas utility operations (Supervisor II)
BA/BS degree or 5-10 yrs. experience in gas utility operations (Superintendent)
Valid driver’s license
Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Supervisory experience
PeopleSoft Financials - intermediate proficiency
MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access - intermediate proficiency preferred
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Working on various job sites and excessive driving up to four (4) hours at a time
Potential for occasional overnight travel
On-call as needed
