About Fast Track to Critical Care Resource Team Transitional Program

Graduate Nurse Fast Track to Critical Care Resource Team Transitional Program – UPMC Western Maryland

UPMC Western Maryland is currently hiring RNs of all levels who are thinking long-term and preparing for a career as a critical care nurse! As a part of the Fast Track to Critical Care Resource Team Transitional Program , candidates will spend one to two years working on our High-Level Care Unit gaining the experience, critical thinking, knowledge, and skills necessary to provide top-tier care as a critical care nurse. At the end of the program, candidates will transition into full-time roles with UPMC Western Maryland’s Critical Care Clinical Resource Team ! This position is ideal for Graduate Nurses or those who have less than 2 years of experience in a non-critical area.

Once the employee is placed with the Critical Care Clinical Resource Team, the employee will qualify for an additional 10% float pool differential on top of their base rate!

These positions also qualify for a generous Med/Surg-specific sign-on bonus! Graduate nurses are eligible for a $15,000 sign-on bonus with a two-year commitment, and nurses with more than one year of experience are eligible for $20,000 with a two-year commitment!

  About the Units:

The High-Level Care Unit (HLC) is a 28-bed step-down unit with all private rooms. All rooms have cardiac in-room monitors to closely monitor patients. High-Level Care offers specialty care in trauma, peritoneal dialysis, and cardiac care. Our nursing staff is ACLS certified. Nurses in this unit care for patients from late adolescence through adulthood with various diseases and injuries.

The Critical Care Clinical Resource Team (CCRT) is a float pool of experienced nurses supporting the hospital’s most critical patients. There are two separate teams - one that covers the Emergency Department (ED), ICU/CVU and one team that covers ICU/CVU and Progressive Care/HLC. Upon hire, candidates will select which team they prefer based on openings and candidate/manager preferences. Job requirements, training, and certifications are based on which team they choose. The ED team, for example, will require pediatric advanced life support, but the team covering PCU/HLC will not.

The CCRT is an opportunity for staff who enjoy a fast-paced environment that will make them use their critical thinking skills. The positions are also meant for those who like change - because there is an opportunity to rotate units every four hours during a 12-hour shift.

At UPMC, we’re passionate about continuing to support your growth throughout your nursing journey. We offer a robust career ladder for bedside nursing that starts with Professional Staff Nurse and leads to Expert Nurse and beyond.
