About Faculty Position in Ophthalmology

  Faculty Position in Ophthalmology

Cornell University embraces diversity and seeks candidates who will contribute to a climate that supports students, faculty and staff of all identities and backgrounds. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented and/or marginalized identities to apply.

The Department of Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University invites applications for a tenure track or clinical track faculty position in the Section of Ophthalmology. The new faculty member will join the current faculty ophthalmologists with the goals of supporting robust basic and clinical research programs, providing excellent ophthalmology services in the Hospital, and maintaining a strong teaching and outreach program.

The Cornell Ophthalmology Section is comprised of 4 faculty ophthalmologists, and the position in this announcement is intended to replace a faculty member that is retiring. The successful candidate will join an ophthalmology section supported by five experienced, licensed veterinary technicians (LVT) that are dedicated to the ophthalmology section, and three ophthalmology residents in a comprehensive, state-of-the art teaching and referral hospital.

The Cornell University Hospital for Animals is equipped with extensive therapeutic and diagnostic equipment including state-of-the-art operating microscopes (including a ceiling-mounted Zeiss OPMI LUMERA 700 and multiple floor mounted microscopes); phacoemulsification units including an Alcon Centurion Vision System; anterior and posterior segment digital photography equipment (including a RetCam3, infrared cameras, and ultraviolent cameras); ocular thermography units; diode, YAG, and CO2 lasers (including endolaser); in vivo corneal confocal microscopy, optical coherence tomography, confocal laser scanning ophthalmoscopy, and retinal tomography equipment; cryosurgical units; and electrodiagnostic and ocular ultrasonography equipment (including high resolution and ultrasound biomicroscopy units). A state-of-the-art advanced ophthalmic imaging laboratory is located adjacent to the teaching hospital and is fully available to the section for both clinical and research purposes.

Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Board certification in veterinary ophthalmology (ACVO) is preferred, but those with credentials completed in preparation for the certifying exam are also encouraged to apply. Clinical and/or basic science research experience is desirable. The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with all the sections in the Hospital.

Distribution of effort in the Section and Department will be determined in accordance with the service needs, academic priorities, and the candidate's expertise and academic goals in ophthalmology. Clinical teaching and service in the Cornell University Hospital for Animals, lecture and laboratory instruction of veterinary students and house officers, and independent and/or collaborative research expectations are negotiable. Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist at the College and University, including Weill Medical College and technology campuses in New York City.
