Description
GENERAL PURPOSE
The EMM is an integral part of the sales team focused on working with smaller to mid sized groups (up to 35 rooms/peak) and smaller meetings of 50 guests or less. This position works on all aspects of the sales process from receiving inquiry calls, booking business, confirming details and working with the group while they are on site. Additional responsibilities will include answering telephone inquiries and qualifying clients for meetings and events. This position reports to the Director of Sales. Candidates should have a minimum of 1 year of previous hotel experience, preferably in Sales & Catering. Also, have a good knowledge of guest room sales and possess strong organizational and administrative skills and must also possess excellent communication skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Optimize room rental charges.
Book repeat business by having a track record of long term client relationships.
Thorough knowledge of sales techniques including strong closing and negotiating skills.
Comfortable with hotel site inspections and client presentations.
Ability to generate creative and innovative menus while working closely with Chef on pricing specialty menus.
Work closely with banquet department on operations and event execution. Ability to quickly evaluate alternatives and decide on a plan of action.
Provide overall direction, coordination, and ongoing evaluation of operations. Detailed execution of all banquet event orders generated by the Catering Department.
Monitor group room blocks and pick up, generate detailed resumes for the operating departments.
Ability to work with outside vendors to ensure client satisfaction for all events/groups.
Comply with company attendance policy.
Perform any other job related duties as assigned.
Prepare and send requested collateral materials to designated clients or guests. Common collateral materials might include catering menus, brochures, meeting room layout & seating capacity diagrams, area maps & brochures .
Solicit, negotiate and book new and repeat business through efforts (outside sales calls, telemarketing, mailings, networking, etc.) while maximizing banquet space to meet/exceed revenue goals.
Execute a territorial marketing strategy to capture the maximum amount of revenue and meet and ideally exceed sales goals.
Plan, upsell and detail the meeting/function with the client including: space requirements, times, equipment, menus, themes/decorations, etc. Complete the contracts, prepare the appropriate paperwork, including banquet event orders, coordinate with the appropriate areas in the hotel, resolve any issues, complaints and problems to ensure a quality product delivery and customer satisfaction.
Prepare status and period end reports.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of corporate and hotel procedures, products and competition, including their strengths and weaknesses, to continually improve sales strategies and achieve goals.
Professional and positive communication to both guests and fellow employees.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in communication and professional organizations to maintain high visibility and promote sales.
Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned. Participate in task forces and committees as required.
Local travel required. Own vehicle required for sales calls.
Hours: 40-50 hours over a five day period; days and times may vary based on need. Must be available when personal accounts are in house.

No supervisory responsibility other than for self.
Qualifications
Knowledge
Requires thorough knowledge of the practices and procedures of the catering, food and beverage, menu development and pricing.
Requires knowledge of the hotel's policies and procedures and the ability to determine course of action based on these guidelines.
Requires ability to investigate and analyze current activities and/or information involving readily available data and indicating logical conclusions and recommendations.
Must posses communication skills in terms of the ability to negotiate, convince, sell and influence professionals and/or hotel guests.
Ability to drive to outside sales calls.
Skills
Excellent hearing required for verbal interaction with guests and associates.
Excellent vision required for viewing set-ups.
Excellent speech communication skills required for verbal interaction with guests and associates.
Excellent comprehension and literacy required to develop marketing plan, create menus and programs, etc.
Abilities
Lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying - tables, chairs, boxes (50 lb. maximum) occasionally.
Bending/kneeling - taping down cords, skirting tables, picking up floor after function, occasionally.
Mobility - ability to service clients on a moments notice, variable distances.
Continuous standing - function observation, client site inspections (one hour minimum to four hours maximum).
Climbing - up to 55 steps, 3-5% of 10 hours. Driving - distance varies for sales calls (approximately 20%).
Education/Formal Training
More than two years of post high school education, but less than a degree from a four year college.
Experience
Experience required by position is from one to two full years of employment in a related position with this company or other organization(s).

Computer, typewriter, telephone, calculator, vacuum cleaner and facsimile.
Environment
Work inside 70% of 10 hour day; outside 30% of 10 hour day.
