About Equitable Early Literacy and Quality Alignment Fellow (SY23-24)

  Reports To: Brooke Childs, Director of Early Literacy The BPS Early Childhood Department seeks a qualified fellow to remotely support key initiatives within the department. The intern will 1) support course management of the Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS) program and 2) work collaboratively with multiple research projects across the BPS Early Childhood team in gathering, organizing and analyzing systematic data and performing other general administrative tasks. Specifically, this research fellow will focus on two major research projects during the 2023-2024 school year: The Quality Alignment Tool Project and the Strategic Literacy Outcomes Project. This person will dually report to the Director of Early Literacy and the Evaluation and Data Manager. The position is located at the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building, with the ability to complete tasks on-site and remotely, and is a part-time position ideal for a current graduate or doctoral student. The selected intern will also be able to take the LETRS course at no cost. Responsibilities: LETRS Course Management Assigning and managing online licenses for LETRS course content through the LETRS Platform Communicating license information (usernames, passwords, license status, etc.) to course participants and facilitators Tracking course completion through both the Google Classroom and the LETRS Platform for synchronous and asynchronous LETRS participants This person may also help with ongoing research project needs as the projects evolve. Quality Alignment Tool Project Support the development and implementation of the Quality Alignment Tool project. Review and pull examples from existing tools (e.g., the fidelity tool, CRIOP, NAEYC, etc.) for the Quality Alignment Tool indicators. Prepare for pilot data collection Support with potential classroom data entry and data management Organize, catalog, and analyze potential classroom data once we start piloting the quality alignment tool Conduct analyses on comparing and contrasting classroom data for both BPS classrooms and UPK CBOs Support the Evaluation and Data Manager in working towards the development of systematic storing and analyzing classroom fidelity/quality data Strategic Literacy Outcomes Project Support data entry and data management Support the Director of Early Literacy with data cleaning for multiple data sources Support the Evaluation and Data Manager with data management, data analysis, and data visualization of results Support data pulls and potential data sharing among multiple parties Organize and manage different data sources in preparation for the ultimate model to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions provided by the department Support the Evaluation and Data Manager in working towards the development of better data collection and storage systems that will enhance the quality of collected data Qualifications: Must be authorized to work in the United States Strong email communication skills Knowledge of evidence-based early literacy practices Experience with Excel, Google spreadsheets, R, and strong data management skills Experience with visualizing data in an easy-to-understand manner that facilitates discussion and action Ability to develop summary reports that can be used for multiple purposes and with multiple stakeholders Openness to working in a dynamic team environment in which, sometimes, deadlines must be met in a condensed time frame Systems thinker who can connect daily tasks to larger systemic priorities and future improvements Terms: $25/hour (up to $30/hour for doctoral students), about 20-35 hrs a week throughout the school-year.
