JOB REQUIREMENTS: The Epidemiologist III will serve as a senior-levelepidemiologist responsible for carrying out a broad and complex range ofepidemiologic activities related to the surveillance, detection, andprevention of disease and injuries. The specific public health topicswill depend on the objectives of the grant and the unique needs of eachcommunity we serve. Working independently and as an experienced teammember under the direction of the Program Director or the EpidemiologyCenter Director, the Epidemiologist III will lead community-initiatedand -driven projects through a community-based participatory research(CBPR) lens, provide expertise in research methods/instruments, andindependently conduct analyses. This position is in our Madison,Wisconsin office with occasional travel throughout Michigan, Minnesota,and Wisconsin is a part of the position and is important for buildingrelationships with the communities we serve. Principal Duties TheEpidemiologist III is a senior-level epidemiologist and is expected toperform all the functions of an Epidemiologist I and Epidemiologist IIunder the minimal supervision of a Program Director or the TribalEpidemiology Center Director. An Epidemiologist III will advocate fordata quality for American Indians and Alaska Natives within the regionto outside entities and perform core public health functions. Thisposition may also be responsible for overseeing staff. Regular functionsto be performed by an Epidemiologist III Provide epidemiologicassistance to Bemidji IHS Area Tribal communities. Work with internaland external partners to improve American Indian and Alaska Native dataquality and access. Acquire data, produce reports, and coordinate publichealth initiatives with Tribal communities. Have a lead role in writingpublic health surveillance reports. Oversee technical assistancerequests and provide technical assistance independently to Tribes.Support the entire project lifecycle, including development,implementation, and analysis (or and evaluation). Provide mentorship toall junior Epidemiologists. Additional functions to be performed by anEpidemiologist III Communicate appropriately with community partners tofully understand Tribal communities\' requests. Assist communities inselecting appropriate methods based on project scope. Work withcommunities to craft appropriate data collection instruments.Participate in external committees and workgroups. Lead grant writingefforts. Present at conferences and seminars. Serve as the lead authoron white papers and journal articles. Perform other duties as necessaryto fulfill the responsibilities of this position. ***** OTHEREXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred: include experience workingwith Tribal governments, Tribal organizations, and/or not-for-profitagencies in epidemiology. Ability to work independently and as a programteam member. Evaluation experience is preferred. Individuals mustpossess excellent verbal and written communication skills; professionaldemeanor and appearance; problem-solving skills; ability to manage timeeffectively; and self-motivation skills. Individual must be able to workeffectively under pressure, build positive work relationships withinternal and external partners, interact professionally with a widevariety of people, speak in front of groups, address a wide range ofintellectual and practical problems, use data analysis tools (SAS, R,and Tableau), and compose complex publications including health reportsand health profiles. This position requires staff to maintainconfidentiality of sensitive information and follow internal andexternal data protection policies.
