JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Description POSITION The Epidemiologist /Bioterrorism Preparedness Coordinator performs a dual role interactingwith both the City and the community at large investigating thedeterminants/distribution of disease, along with planning andcoordinating disaster response/crisis management. This individual actsunder the direction of the Public Health Administrator and/or theirdesignee. Essential Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES Monitor the incidence andprevalence of disease and other health-determining factors in thejurisdiction, and oversee surveillance activities. Gather, document, andanalyze the impact of various chronic and infectious disease processes,determinants of health, and other factors that impact the jurisdiction.Coordinate and provide epidemiological investigative activities relatedto communicable and chronic diseases, food and waterborne illness andother public health problems using established scientific and technicalmethods and practices. Participate as a member of the Department\'sepidemiological team in the event of a suspected or confirmed chemical,biological, communicable disease, or other event. Review existing healthprograms and develop plans for expansion, modification, or eliminationbased on effectiveness, efficacy, and changing health needs of thepopulation based on epidemiologic principles. Conduct outbreak and otherinvestigations by assisting with onsite reviews of facilities andprocedures, interviewing patients, contacts, and providers, andcollecting data from local agencies or other entities. Develop, review,and implement questionnaires and/or forms to be used during outbreakinvestigations. Apply principles of ethical and legal practice relatedto data collection, dissemination, and use in the course of surveillanceand data analysis or distribution. Identify and implement effectivehealth promotion and disease prevention strategies. Provide input atcase conferences, evaluations, planning committees, and outreachactivities within the Department and with partner agencies. Providedirect and integrated services / interactions within the CommunityHealth Clinic setting, including but not limited to the Needle ExchangeProgram and STD/HIV Clinic and its related programs such as HIV PartnerServices. Generate reports and descriptive analyses based on health anddisease trends, factors impacting health, and other related data.Provide oversight, guidance, and assist with the Racine County MedicalReserve Corps. Collaborate and interact with partner agencies, includingbut not limited to Fire, Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, HealthCare, and other Local Health Department partners, for planning,exercises, training, and other preparedness activities.
