Terracon-Houston is seeking a growth-minded individual for the position of Asbestos Technician I in our rapidly growing Environmental Department. This entry-level position offers specialized professional training and rapid-growth opportunity in one of the busiest offices in the nation’s #1-ranked asbestos design firm.
The ideal candidate possesses strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high sense of personal accountability. This position will play a key role in our fast-paced asbestos, lead and indoor air quality practice. Asbestos Technicians report directly to the Asbestos Group Manager and the Asbestos, Lead & IH Services Department Manager. Asbestos Technicians provide air monitoring and project oversight on asbestos project management on asbestos abatement projects and assist with asbestos inspections and other sampling/monitoring projects.

General Responsibilities:
Upon completion of training:
Perform asbestos abatement air monitoring and project management.
Perform tests and sampling of environmental materials including, but not limited to, air, building materials, and noise.
Operate field monitoring equipment.
Assist with asbestos surveys inspections and other sampling/monitoring projects.
Transport material samples or documents to the lab for further testing and analysis.
Tabulate and prepare data and project logs for written reports.
Clean and maintains field monitoring equipment.
Adhere to strict QA/QC standards.
Adhere to strict safety standards.
Essential Role and Responsibilities:
Performs basic tests as directed following well-defined procedures.
Calibrate field monitoring equipment such as high- and low-volume air sampling pumps.
Assist in performance of asbestos surveys and other sampling/monitoring projects.
Assist higher-level Technicians, Assistant Project Managers and Project Managers on complex tasks.
Will be placed in a progressively increased role of training and responsibility in work assignments.
Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 0-2 years of relevant experience or the equivalent in training and related experience.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician training (NIOSH 582) is preferred.
Asbestos Project Manager training is preferred.
Asbestos Inspector training is preferred.
This position requires the employee to work flexible hours and occasional weekends. Occasional overnight travel and out-of-town mobilization of up to 3 weeks may also be required.
The employee must be able to lift-and-carry for short distances up to 50 pounds and assist in team lift-and-carry for short distances up to 100 pounds.
This position requires the employee to work in humid, hot and cold conditions as well as work at heights and in close spaces.
This position requires frequent ladder use, including the use of 24' extension ladders.
This position requires manual dexterity with both hands and ability to operate a microscope using both eyes.
Preferred:
Other national, regional, state, and local environmental related certifications requiring experience and written examination will also be considered if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.Exemption:
