Environmental Technician

Summary
The Environmental Technician assists with a variety of environmental or survey type projects at Red Dog Mine. Work activities may include support for the the monitoring for caribou along the Port Road (Delong Mountain Transportation System), seed collection, non-native species (plant) removal, and Native Seed Farm development tasks. Support for field survey work or other environmental monitoring type tasks may also be performed by the technicians.Work will primarily be field based and will be under the direction of either Kuna or Teck personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
§Work primarily in the field with multi-person crews in remote areas surrounding the Red Dog Mine, with daily mobilization from the Red Dog Mine or Port camps.
§Assist field teams with performing tasks as directed and with training for activities as noted above.
§Keep notes on daily activities and observations as directed and in a professional manner to meet project requirements.
§Take pictures and collect data from field instruments.
§This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
§Other duties that are pertinent to the project’s success may also be assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
§High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
§Desire to work outside and sometimes in inclement weather, with minimal supervision.
§Previous field based team work experience preferred.
§A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors/Outdoors, with frequent exposure to moderate to harsh weather conditions. Requires work to be done both inside and outside.
Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Description of environment: Most work will be from mancamp field locations in/around Red Dog Mine. Occasional work in standard office settings.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.Field work will require being on feet throughout the day and walking several miles over varied terrain each day.
Travel: Work will be based at the Red Dog Mine or Port Site.This will require travel via small plane to the mine. Daily mobilization to the project sites may require helicopter transport.Some locations may be accessible via truck.
