Salary Ranges:Engineer-in-Training I - $65,700 - $72,252 AnnuallyEngineer-in-Training II - $68,988 - $75,876 Annually
New employees to the State will be paid biweekly. There are 26 biweekly payperiods in a year.
This position is covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State ofColorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins).

Description of JobAbout the Unit:This position works in the Colorado Department of Transportation's (CDOT's)East Engineering Unit. The work unit exists to perform all transportationplanning, design and construction project engineering and administrativeduties in collaboration with other DOT work units, other State and Federalagencies, consultants, utilities, other government entities, and propertyowners. Additionally, this work unit assures that the construction ofcomplex projects is performed in a safe manner; is of the highest quality atthe lowest possible cost; and is completed in a timely manner with the leastinconvenience to the traveling public and in conformance with all contractwith all contract and regulatory requirements.
About the Position:Under the guidance and supervision of a Professional Engineer the Engineer inTraining I or II provides engineering design and construction support for theunit. This position learns to assist/assists in the development of roadwayconstruction plans, design details, specifications, and cost estimates forstate projects during design. During construction, this position assistswith ensuring contract compliance of construction activities and preparingitem documentation into the development of the monthly estimates,

Under the guidance and supervision of a Professional Engineer performs thefollowing:
Engineering Design
Learn to evaluate/evaluate engineering plans, specifications, and costestimates for roadway construction projects.Learn to assure/assure quality and consistency of project design plans andprocedures by applying good engineering judgment and a wide variety of designand construction manuals, spreadsheets, forms, design aids, computer software,and Department procedures.Use engineering practices and calculation methods that meet CDOT and AASHTOguidelines.Dev lop practical applications of professional engineering processes,theories, laws, principles, and techniques related to highway engineering..Learn to apply/apply current engineering principles and theories, designspecifications, and federal, state, and local design standards to develop plansets and specifications for roadway projects. These projects include newconstruction or reconstruction of intersections, corridor widening, roadwaysurface treatment, bridge improvements, etc.Learn to utilize/utilize CDOT s Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) programMicrostation Open Roads Designer to prepare design models and project plans,specifications, and estimates for regular milestone meetings, includingScoping, Field Inspection Review (FIR), Field Office Review (FOR), ADProject Management & CoordinationLearn to assist/assist with the preparation and tracking of documentation,
