About Engineering Technician

Summary As a Engineering Technician you will serves as a technical expert, consultant, and advisor to center engineering organizations, contractors and other activities on issues pertaining to the Fire Alarm Program or High Medium Voltage Program in the National Capital Region (NCR). General Services Administration (GSA), Public Buildings Service (PBS), National Capital Region (NCR). We are currently filling one vacancy, but additional vacancies may be filled as needed. Responsibilities Plans and directs studies of national significance and of outstanding importance to the organization. Provides and is relied upon as the final authority to present technical guidance to GSA personnel and is often called upon to review/assess problematic or potentially controversial situations that are either out of the ordinary, unique or otherwise unusual in nature. Serve as the subject matter expert for the National Capital Region on the latest editions of (a), Fire Alarm: NFPA 72, 25, 13, 90A, 241, 70 70E, ASME A17.1, and Chapter 27 of the IBC and IFC. High Voltage: NFPA 70, 70B, 70E, 110, 755, 241 and Chapter 27of the IBC and IFC. (b) GSA policies and procedures in inspection operation, maintenance, replacement, repair, and modernization of fire alarm systems or electrical supply and distribution systems, stored energy systems, and emergency power supply systems, and (c) current construction, installation, and operation practices of the fire alarm or electrical supply industry. Provides agency-wide technical assistance, advice, management and execution within GSA and the NCR, its contractors, employee unions and other federal agencies in the development, interpretation and application of Fire Alarm standards and regulations as they apply to the Federal workplace, employees and contractors. Provides oversight to federal government project managers and Contractor(s) for all Fire Alarm program issues in the NCR. Review and gives the final approval of work, programs, documents and memorandums as they pertain to either the Fire Alarm Program. Reviews and approves and/or rejects technical reports and/or papers on sensitive and complex matters that influence broader policies and programs impacting the NCR. Failure to disclose this information could result in disciplinary action including removal from Federal Service. Serve a one year probationary period, if required. Undergo and pass a background investigation (Tier 2 investigation level). This position requires the incumbent to be reached during non-assigned working hours, with a reasonable expectation, in order to facilitate the running of the building/campus/center that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Incumbent is subject to being called at any time for emergency situations involving buildings managed. To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is work that has provided expert knowledge of fire alarm or high medium voltage switchgear programs and industry practices to include fire alarm or high medium voltage switchgear safety, inspections, installation, maintenance, fire alarm and high medium code administration, project management and cost estimating. Qualifying experience must reflect the ability to effectively manage a regional fire alarm or high medium switchgear program.
