  Job Description:

  This requisition is a technical leadership position within E03 - Submarine Waterfront Engineering supporting the Virginia Class Submarine new construction (to include PSA).

  Candidate will be expected to:

  *Understand and become fluent in the engineering requirement of work. (ie: familiar with NAVY Tech Pub 1688 & 278, QAI 606.3, QAI 606.11, Q-44, E03-6.2, E-86)

  *Lead all junior engineers by providing technically correct guidance or the appropriate method to approach a problem.

  *Review and sign Engineering Reports submitted by other engineers.

  *Interface with construction project management, Re-Entry Control management…etc to resolve conflicts that arise from the engineering resolution provided.

  Work location is between MOF or Pier 6 on the waterfront .

  The Role

  Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

  Must Have

  Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience;

  Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience;

  Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.

  Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

  Nice to Have
