  Position Brand Description:

  The Secondary Loop Process Control Engineer provides technical leadership and automation support of manufacturing operations in accordance with appropriate Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety guidelines. This includes expertise, as well as coaching and mentorship of frontline Process Control Engineers in the following areas: automation control system configuration, change control and project delivery, deviation investigation, Computer System Validation (CSV) , data mining and analysis, and routine automation computer system support activities. The Secondary Loop Process Control Engineer provides engineering solutions to the business, utilizes project management skills and first principles in delivery of these solutions, provides off-hours automation control system support as needed, and can recommend new control strategies for the various chemical processes utilized in pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.

  Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  Coach and Mentor Frontline Process Control Engineers:

  Coach and mentor frontline process control engineers in aspects of fundamental process control engineering support including process control application, problem solving, project management, automation design and CSV practices.

  Investigate and peer review root cause analysis around process control and automation events.

  Design and peer review automation changes to the manufacturing process.

  Promote and peer review documentation of key shared learnings and event investigations.

  Provide technical oversight and guidance in development and delivery of Process Hazard Review (PHR) recommendations, deviation countermeasures and continuous improvement changes.

  Provide Process Support, Develop and Sustain Process Knowledge:

  Troubleshoot automation computer system software and hardware.

  Configure automation control systems such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and/or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).

  Perform automation computer system support activities (e.g., system backups, performance monitoring, password maintenance, etc.).

  Provide off-hours automation control system support as needed to supplement frontline process control engineers.

  Execute all work in a manner consistent with GMP and Lilly policies, procedures, and standards.

  Complete all work in a safe manner and ensure the safety of others.

  Provide Engineering Solutions to the Business:

  Design and deliver automation for new process units, as well as automation changes to the manufacturing process.

  Utilize ANSI/ISA-88 standard for batch process control along with engineering first principles in the delivery of automation solutions.

  Provide automation technical leadership and project management for engineering projects.

  Provide oversight of contractors assisting in the delivery of automation solutions.

  Provide Recommendations on New Control Strategies / Technologies:

  Research and maintain familiarity with various control strategies/technologies.

  Research and maintain familiarity with chemical processes utilized in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

  Assess and maintain metrics for the efficiency and effectiveness of existing process control systems.

  Develop continuous improvement initiatives for process control systems.

  Perform data mining and analysis to monitor the performance and identify improvements in the manufacturing process (e.g., nuisance alarm reduction, control loop tuning, etc.).

  Basic Requirements:

  Ability to configure and troubleshoot automation Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and batch processes.

  Ability to mentor and coach others on automation topics, process control applications and CSV practices.

  Teamwork and interpersonal skills.

  Good written and oral communication skills.

  Attention to detail.

  Additional Preferences:

  Previous experience with Lilly change control and deviation processes.

  Previous experience (4+ years) configuring and troubleshooting automation distributed control systems.

  Previous experience (2+ years) working in a regulated environment or chemical manufacturing environment.

  Understanding of GMP, CSV, S88, and control theory.

  Previous experience with DeltaV Batch applications.

  Education Requirements:

  Bachelor of Science in Engineering.Other Information:

  Mentor specialists and other engineers in technical and professional development.

  Perform tasks in manufacturing and laboratory areas which require an individual to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  The normal schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day. However, situations may require additional support beyond this normal schedule. Little to no travel is required with this position.

  This position requires 24/7 availability via cell phone.
