  PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

  CPKC is looking for a motivated and technically proficient Engineer in Training to join our team in the design and deployment of a state-of-the-art Enhanced Train Control (ETC) system for our railway network. As a key member of our engineering team, you will work closely with experienced professionals to contribute to the development, integration, and implementation of cutting-edge ETC technologies aimed at enhancing the safety and efficiency of our rail operations.

  POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  Contribute to the design process of the Enhanced Train Control (ETC) system and assist in the development of software and hardware components

  Participate in integration testing to ensure seamless communication between ETC subsystems: communications hardware (e.g., gateways, routers, switches), and communication protocol integration of electrical components

  Identify and troubleshoot issues during the testing phase

  Analyze data collected from ETC systems to identify trends and performance metrics

  Generate reports on system performance and compliance

  Contribute to the creation of technical documentation, including system specifications and user manuals

  Maintain accurate records of system configurations and changes

  Drill down on system failure root causes, analyze reliability trends and provide valuable feedback to suppliers, work collaboratively to enhance reliability through upgrades and process changes

  Programming, setup and troubleshooting of power electronics systems

  POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, System Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field is required

  Eligibility for P. Eng. registration with APEGA

  An experience in designing and implementing technology from a prototype to production system is an asset

  Programming Skills: Proficient in C++, Java, or Python

  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required

  Strong organizational skills

  Effective communication and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams

  Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies

  Practical hands-on (electronics) and field experience an asset

  Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license

  Valid passport, ability to travel to United States

  Management Conductor Program:

  Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
