　　The Role

　　Specific to this position:

　　Serve as a Facilities Plant Engineer for low voltage (600V and below) design, construction and repair requirements providing technical leadership/direction to others for specific engineering projects/programs.

　　Knowable in system engineering of lighting, security systems, IT/Communications, and audio visual.

　　Prepare impact studies and makes recommendations for future critical maintenance/replacement initiatives

　　Perform design reviews of contractor project submittals to ensure adequacy for the application at the subject facility and alignment with best practices.

　　Oversee studies and condition assessments for facilities.

　　Review of Technical Work Instructions

　　Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

　　Must Have

　　Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;

　　Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;

　　Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

　　Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

　　Nice to Have

　　Licensed professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia is preferred.

　　Possess superior written and verbal communication skills as well as be able to serve as a mentor to supervisors/engineers to develop their knowledge, technical skills and expertise.

　　Knowable and experience with the National Electrical Code.

　　A thorough understanding of applicable codes along with experience in troubleshooting and root cause analysis is required.
