About Energy & Sustainability Engagement Coordinator

  Position Summary:

  The Energy & Sustainability Engagement Coordinator will report to the Campus Energy Manager and provide leadership and support in addressing our University-wide Sustainability reporting and commitments; manage campus sustainability communications (website, social media, newsletters); Promote on campus and community sustainability engagement, coordinate student, faculty and staff programs, develop and encourage campus-wide sustainability events, and collaborate with the local community on sustainability initiatives. This position may also provide support related to energy initiatives, including grant and rebate submissions.

  Major Responsibilities:

  Supporting and Implementing University-wide Sustainability

  Lead institutional crosscutting initiatives through partnerships with other campus entities, (for example: Campus Garden and Edible Food Forest Project)

  Provide logistical support to various energy and sustainability committees including scheduling meetings, providing meeting summaries to participants, addressing key outcomes pertaining to engagement activities.

  Provide data collection and data tracking management for internal and external reports. Examples of reports include: AASHE STARS ; Second Nature; Green NY (EO22 annual reporting, formerly EO4 and EO18)

  Provide logistical support to develop programs and engagement initiatives to support public and community-based commitments to sustainability. Examples include Second Nature Commitments to carbon emission reduction goals, Climate Action Planning support, resiliency assessment, as well as engagement externally with community organizations. This may include being part of an external organization board or advisory committee. Other examples include annual conference presentations, campus film series, speakers, and others.

  Communications

  Maintain the sustainability website. Responsible for all aspects of the continued development of the site, content creation, and the publishing of new material.

  Publish, archive, edit, seek contributors, and create content for the Newsletter.

  Assist with SUNY Cortland sustainability brand development and implementation in consultation with the Marketing Office.

  Manage social media strategies including the development, scheduling, and posting of content to Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter), etc.

  Coordinate with the Communications Office to develop communications to the campus and greater community regarding sustainability public relations.

  Responsible for expanding the reach of all SUNY Cortland sustainability print, web, and social media content.

  Fostering Student Engagement and Outreach

  Develop and cultivate student sustainability leaders.

  Mentor student environmental leaders through attending events, conducting one on one meetings, and facilitating collaborations surrounding large events and other programing activities.

  Provide leadership with coordinating and advancing the Green Rep Program.

  Supervise student interns, Green Reps, graduate students, and volunteers for the Sustainability Office.

  Advise student groups that seek to address climate change, social justice, and other sustainability issues.

  Community Engagement/Innovation

  Serve as a SUNY Cortland liaison to community organizations and businesses that are working on sustainability and resiliency initiatives under the direction of the Campus Sustainability Coordinator and Campus Energy Manager.

  Strategize, plan, and implement events including the Green Days, Community Resiliency Events, Greenflix film Series, and others.

  Collaborate with colleagues to generate new programs or activities that involve students, staff, and community members to learn about and further engage in addressing climate change, social justice, and additional sustainability issues.

  Energy Management Support

  Provide direct support to the Campus Energy Manager related to implementing energy programs and training. Assist with grant and rebate submissions related to energy initiatives.Required Qualifications:

  Bachelor’s degree

  Minimum 6 months experience facilitating and/or leading group program initiatives.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field supporting sustainability, outreach, program management, or related.

  Supervisory experience.

  Direct work experience within a sustainability focused organization.

  Experience with building systems including HVAC , refrigeration, lighting, power, equipment, laboratories, processes, metering, and building automation.

  Experience with utility grant and rebate programs, examples include: NYSERDA , National Grid, NYSEG , Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency.
